Box Score LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University softball team falls in the final game of the home conference series with the #9 Texas Woman’s Pioneers, losing 10-2.
With the loss, Cameron falls to 9-18 overall and 2-7 in Lone Star Conference games. This was the second LSC series in which the Aggies were swept in all three games of the weekend. The #9 Pioneers are now 30-7 and 8-1 in LSC matchups.
The Aggies offense was held quiet today, with only Micah Foutch having an RBI. CU’s starter, Samantha Betts went sixth and two thirds innings, giving up six earned runs, and striking out four. Betts struggled to find the home plate umpire’s zone and finished the game with 11 walks. In addition to walks, four errors hurt the Aggies in the seven inning game.
TWU was led on the offensive side by Katie Hines, who had a big day out of the four hole going 3-5 with seven RBI’s coming off two homers. Hines had five homers in the series with 13 runs driven in. As a team the Pioneers had 12 long balls this weekend.
TWU kicked off the game with a two run first inning, highlighted by Hines RBI double.
The Aggies answered with their two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Leslie Martini got on via a one out single up the middle. She then advanced to second on a wild pitch and then to third on an infield single by Sonia Foutch. After Sonora Zukerman was intentionally walked to load the bases, Micah Foutch hit a single down the left field line to score L. Martini. In the next at bat, all the Aggie runners advanced on a wild pitch, scoring Makenzie Burk who pinch ran for S. Foutch.
Texas Woman’s would take the lead back in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs off of Hines first long ball of the game.
TWU would add one more in the sixth and then strike for four runs in the top of the seventh, three coming off of Hines second homer and the other off of a solo shot by Jordan Readicker.
The Aggies will return to Cameron field on Tuesday, March 26 for a doubleheader with Southwestern Oklahoma State, with the first game starting at 2 p.m.
