STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Samantha Betts tossed a complete game and held Tarleton State to two runs as Cameron came through with timely hits to get a 6-2 win at the TSU Softball Complex on Friday afternoon.

Tarleton State (19-13, 7-5 LSC) got a pair of hits from Amber Clifford, and Eryn Freitas added a hit and a RBI.

Cameron in the first inning got the bases with one out but they were not able to deliver any runs, after popping up and grounding into a fielder’s choice.

Tarleton struck first getting a two out walk and single that would lead to Clifford singling into left field to give the TexAnns the early, 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third, Misty Dooley reached to lead off the inning after a ball handling error by the TexAnn first basemen.  Tara Martini then mashed a double down the right field line to score Dooley in from first.  Later in the inning Sonora Zukerman struck out in what would be the third out but she would reach off an handling error by the catcher, Martini would score during the confusion to give the Ags a 2-1 lead.

During the bottom half of the inning Tarleton State tied the game off a lead off homer to left center field.  Despite this, Cameron responded with four runs and five hits in the top half of the fourth.  Spencer Ferrell started the Aggie hit parade off a bunt single.  Dooley followed up with a single to center field moving the runners to the corners.   Tara Martini came in with a clutch RBI hit to score Ferrell in from third, before Leslie Martini banged in a single into center field and brought Dooley in for a run.  Sonia Foutch would bring home the Martini sisters off a single into center field.  Cameron would lead Tarleton State at the end of the inning, 6-2.

After getting run protection, Betts locked in and surrendered only one Tarleton State hit in the remaining four innings collecting the win for Cameron, 6-2.

Betts (8-10) earned the win for Cameron tossing all seven innings, striking out six TexAnn batters, and allowing only five hits.

The Aggies will have the next six days off before hosting a three game series with Texas A&M Kingsville at Cameron Field starting on April 5.
