Rain delay cools Aggie bats in 6-3 loss to ASU

Box Score
LAWTON, Okla. – An hour and a half rain delay slowed the Aggie momentum from getting a win over Angelo State.  Cameron surrendered three runs in the fifth inning and their offense only scratched one hit following the delay as ASU would complete the three game sweep, 6-3 over CU.

The Aggies are now 6-13 for the season and they are 0-3 in Lone Star Conference play.

ASU got on the board in the top of the third scoring a run, and Cameron responded back with three in the bottom frame.  Leah Trousdale started the inning with a bloop single into left field, and then Misty Dooley singled putting two on and no out.  Spencer Ferrell dropped down a sac bunt to move the runners over to second and third.  Tara Martini swung at the first pitch and hit a single to the shortstop, scoring one run, and putting runners at the corners.    Leslie Martini then smashed a double to right field scoring Dooley and her sister Tara.

Following the third the skies opened up and the tarp was thrown over the field as the game sat idle for the next hour and one half.

The game changed after the delay, as ASU would tack on three runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh off of CU starter Samantha Betts.   Cameron bats were quieted by a pitching change following the delay, going hitless until the seventh inning.   The Ags would fall in a heart breaker, 6-3.

Both sisters Tara and Leslie Martini would go 4-for-8 with 3 RBI.  Betts was charged for the loss going the distance tossing 162 pitches, striking out four batters, while giving six runs (five earned).

Cameron will travel to San Antonio, Texas for a three game series against Incarnate Word starting on March 15.
