Aggies unable to keep pace with TexAnns

Box Score
STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The night started off with promise for the Cameron University volleyball team but they would fall to Tarleton State, 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 18-25, 18-25) at Wisdom Gymnasium.

"Despite the result we had a lot of positives tonight," said head coach Doug Tabbert. "We took the first set but we made a lot of unforced errors and gave up whatever momentum we had. Take the slow start in the second set away and the outlook of the match could have been a whole lot different."

"Overall we held a talented offensive team to a .144 attack percentage and we never gave up from start to finish," Tabbert added.

Cameron (4-6, 0-2 LSC) got off to a solid start shocking the TexAnns (6-4, 1-0 LSC) on their home court by taking set one 25-20; relying on five kills from Annelise Carpenter. While Tarleton misfired early, hitting .028 to hand CU the early lead.

However the rest of the night would not go Cameron's way. In the second set, the Aggies got off to a slow start and let Tarleton build up an 18-6 advantage before steering the ship the right direction. Cameron would get within five points late at the 21-16 mark but Tarleton closed the door winning set two, 25-19.

Following the intermission, Tarleton fired off the strongest offensive set of the night hitting .297 percent with 16 kills to overwhelm Cameron, 25-18.

With the 2-1 advantage, Tarleton led the fourth set from start to finish winning, 25-18 once again.

As a team, Cameron was held to a .086 attack percentage from the floor with 10 blocks. Kelle Carver and Carpenter led the Aggies offensively with eight kills. Kayla Hebert recorded her third double-double in a row with 24 assists and 13 digs; she also had five kills and no errors. Rebecca Green tied a career mark with a match high six blocks on the defensive end.

The TexAnns hit .144 as a team with 10 service aces and had three players with double figure kills.

Cameron will travel to San Angelo to face Angelo State on Sept. 21 with first serve at 2 p.m.
