Kat Evans slammed nine kills for the Cameron University volleyball team but her offense wasn't enough against Texas Woman's as they swept CU at home.
Cameron (4-9, 0-4 LSC) has now dropped their last five matches in a row and remain winless in the Lone Star Conference. The Pioneers (11-4, 3-0 LSC) will return to Denton with sweeps over Cameron and against Midwestern on Friday night.
The Aggies started slow like on Friday night against Texas A&M Commerce letting the Pioneers build up a nine point lead. Cameron couldn't dig themselves out of the hole hitting .085 as a team, while TWU hit .190. The Pioneers would take the set 25-17.
In the second set, CU matched Texas Woman's early but they were unable to hold off the Pioneer attack. TWU would rack up 16 kills while only making one error to lead from start to finish in set two, winning 25-16.
Following the break, Cameron started off in the hole trailing TWU 8-3. The Aggies would turn the corner and go on an 8-2 run forcing the Pioneers to take their first timeout of the match. Both teams matched up point for point but Aggie errors late would give TWU the momentum in the end to take set three, 25-18.
As a team, CU hit .056 on the floor and recorded 10 blocks.
Rebecca Green had five kills, four blocks, and a pair of aces;
Grace Newkirk added six kills.
Lauren Acuna had a match high 20 digs on the defensive end.
The Pioneers provided a .242 hitting percentage with 42 kills. Mallory Kuechle had a match high 14 kills with Kimberly Bell providing 32 assists.
Cameron will to return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 1 to host St. Gregory's at 6 p.m. in the Aggie Gym.
