Box Score LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University women's basketball team rallied from 11 points down with two minutes to go but couldn't get back Texas A&M Commerce falling, 78-76.
The Aggies (8-5, 0-3) got a pair of three pointers from
Chelsea Stamp and a layup from
Brittany Harris to get within three with a minute remaining and were sent to the line with an opportunity to get within one. However both shots wouldn't sink and gave Texas A&M Commerce (3-11, 2-3 LSC) enough of a lead to win the game.
Lacy Reinke guided the Ags with a double-double performance after netting 10 points and 10 rebounds; both
Jazzmine Robinson and Stamp led CU with 12 points each.
Winning the rebounding battle proved to be a factor the Texas A&M Commerce who out-rebounded the Aggies 47 to 33 and doubling CU's total in boards on the offensive end (16 to 8). The Lions picked up 20 second chance points off of those rebounds.
After opening with an early lead, Cameron fell behind the Lions slowly opened a 10 point advantage by the midway point of the half. Despite the lead, the Aggies rallied late and cut the Lion lead in half after
Lacy Reinke nailed a layup at the buzzer to make it a 35-30 ballgame.
Cameron regained their composure in the second half and retook the lead after Reinke hit a wide open jumper with just over 12 minutes left. However the lead was short lived for Cameron as Texas A&M Commerce jumped back in front after a 13-4 run in the next four minutes and led the rest of the way.
As a team the Aggies shot 41.7% from the field and 42.1% from the arc, while the Lions went 42% on the floor and only made two shots from downtown.
Cameron will quickly return to action on Thursday, Jan. 16 to host Texas Woman's at 6 pm.
