Cameron falls to Texas Woman's, 66-53

Box Score LAWTON, Okla. – Cold shooting and turnovers plagued the Cameron University women's basketball team who fell for the second night in a row 66-53 to Texas Woman's on Thursday night at the Aggie Gym.

Cameron (8-6, 0-4 LSC) got a double-double game from Jazzmine Robinson but 12 second chance points and 16 points off of turnovers by Texas Woman's (6-8, 2-3 LSC) dug the Aggies a hole they couldn't get out of.

"We're playing some terrible basketball right now, I don't know what it is but it is my job to figure it out," said head coach Tom Webb.  "We got some open looks at the arc but you can't live or die at making three pointers, you got to make layups and free throws."

As a group Cameron shot 35.7% (20-56) from the field and 57.1% (8-14) at the line.

Texas Woman's took care of the glass beating CU 44-31 in rebounds and shot 39.4% on the floor.

Both teams traded early buckets before Texas Woman's scored eight unanswered points on cold Aggie shooting to lead 15-8 at the 13 minute mark.

TWU continued to stretch their lead on CU to 12 points before Robinson sank a pair of buckets with under two minutes left.   Cameron was then aided by a rebound and layup by Lacy Reinke off a missed second free-throw to cut down the Pioneer lead five at the half, 27-22.

Robinson led all scorers with nine first half points and five rebounds.

Ali Brown provided some life in the later stages of the second half for the Ags after sinking three treys to get them within eight of the Pioneers (53-45) with seven minutes to go.  Brown continued to give CU a spark and nailed a layup to get the Ags within six; TWU responded back with a quick two before Jade Herl nailed a three pointer get within five (56-51 TWU) which would be closest CU would get in final two minutes.

Brown led both teams with 15 points, Robinson had 13 points and 10 rebounds,  and Christina Caddy chipped in 10 points.  Cameron had 12 turnovers in the first half before cutting that number down to a pair in the second half.

Cameron will hit the road on Saturday to face Tarleton State at 5 pm.
