Cameron women set to host Eastern New Mexico

Tip Off

The Aggies are coming off of their second upset of #25 Tarleton State, breaking a five game losing streak. This gave them their second Lone Star Conference win of the season and got them one game closer to being back at .500 on the season.

Last Time Out for CU
Cameron beat Tarleton State for the third consecutive time, winning in overtime 76-72. The Aggies, who are usually deadly from behind the arc, shot below 30% from the three point line, but made up for it, making 19-23 of the free throw shots and getting 34 points in the points in the paint, 12 second chance points, and 23 points off the bench. Cameron got a bucket with under 30 seconds left from Christina Caddy to send it to overtime, before Chelsea Stamp scored five points in extra time to propel CU to the win. Caddy and Ali Brown led the team with 15 points a piece, with Caddy setting a career high with 20 rebounds. Brittany Harris and Jazzmine Robinson also scored in double figures with 14 and 12 points respectively. LSC Preseason Player of the Year, Kiara Wright, had 25 points and 12 rebounds.

Against Eastern New Mexico
In the overall series between Cameron and the Zias, Eastern New Mexico owns the series lead 20-10, and has won the last 3 out of the last five matchups, as both teams have won their respective home games.

Last Time Against ENMU
When Cameron visited Portalles for the conference opener on Jan. 8, the Aggies had a poor shooting night, going 29% from the field, 19% from behind the arc, and 63% from the charity stripe. Jazzmine Robinson led the Aggies with 21 points, while Ali Brown added 10, but Tori Tucker came alive in the last part of the game and finished with 20 points to lead the Zias to the 70-61 win.

Scouting the Zias
The Zias head into this game with a 6-13 overall record and a 4-6 conference mark. After starting the season with a 2-7 non-conference mark, ENMU went 4-1 to kick off the LSC season. Since then, they have lost five straight games, including a 69-44 loss to Angelo State last Saturday.

As a team, Eastern is last in the conference in scoring offense, defense, and margin. From the field they do not shoot very well, but the lead the league in free throw percentage, hitting 74% from the charity stripe. Additionally, the are in the middle of the pack in the rebounding battle and are last in turnover margin, turning the ball over almost 20 times a game.

The Zias have two players averaging just over 10 points a game in Jasmine Johnson (10.3) and Tucker (10.1). Tucker is sixth in the LSC in rebounding, with 6.5 per game, while Lakeeyscia Griffin is third in assists (4.1).

LSC Stack Up
The Aggies have fallen to fourth in the LSC scoring offense and scoring defense, and are third in scoring margin at 6.3. CU is now second in the league in three pointers made with 7.5 per game and in three point percentage (.362). Additionally, the Cameron defense has dropped to third in blocks per game, while also holding down the third spot in rebounding.

Individually, Jazzmine Robinson is 10th in the LSC with 12.0 points a game, and is 11th in rebounds, three spots behind Lacy Reinke and in front Ali Brown and six spots behind Christina Caddy, who moved into fifth in rebounding with her 20 board game against TSU. Chelsea Stamp and Jade Herl are the top two in three pointers made and three point percentage, and are both in the top-29 in points per game, along with teammates Robinson, Brown, and Caddy. Brittany Harris is second in assists per game (4.6) and assist/turnover ratio, while Reinke has fallen to third in blocks with 21 total and 1.0 per game.

Coming Up
The Aggies are down to four games after the contest with the Zias. Next up, Cameron will head to Canyon, Texas to face West Texas A&M on Saturday, Feb. 15. They will then host Texas A&M-Kingsville on Feb. 22 with the second to last home game of the season.
