Softball takes down Southern Arkansas 9-1 and Rogers State 4-2

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Cameron University softball team started the weekend right defeating Southern Arkansas 9-1 and Rogers State 4-2 on Friday in Wichita Falls.

Cameron (5-3) used a lethal combination of timely hits and strong pitching on Friday to hold teams to a .182 batting average.  With the wins on Friday the Aggies have now won their last four games in a row.

The Aggie bats caught fire early and scored six runs in the first inning to rout Southern Arkansas 9-1 in five innings.

Cameron's first six hitters got on and scored a pair of runs before Sonora Zukerman hit the Aggies second grand slam of the season to give CU a 6-0 in the first inning.

The Aggies would add three more in the third that started with a two out Makenzie Burk bunt single; she would swipe second before Misty Dooley singled up the middle to score Burk in.    Macy McKay followed Dooley with a single and Tara Martini would drive both runners in with a double to left field to make it a 9-0 game.

Southern Arkansas scored a run in the fourth off of a single but CU would run rule the Muleriders in five innings.

Sam Betts (3-0) went the distance and struck out three hitters; Zukerman was 2 for 3 with 4 RBI and Martini went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI.

In the night cap against Rogers State the Aggies jumped ahead in the top of the third after loading the bases with no outs.  Cameron would score off of a Dooley ground out and a Hillcat passed ball to give CU the 2-0 edge.  A passed ball in the fourth helped CU score their third run of the game after Paige Daino scored Zukerman from second.

Kelsey Watson rolled through the first four innings without an issue and allowed only one out before surrendering a RSU two run homer to get within a run of the Aggies (3-2).

Betts would come out of the bullpen to shut down the RSU hitters and got an insurance run in the seventh off of a Dooley RBI triple to give CU the 4-2 lead.

Six different Aggie players collected hits with Carly Allerheiligen scoring a pair of runs and Dooley driving in a pair of RBI. 

Watson (1-2) earned her first career win a Cameron going 4 1/3 innings, giving up two runs, and fanning a pair of RSU hitters; Betts got the save tossing 2 1/3 and allowed only one hit.

Cameron will return for two more games on Saturday to play Northeastern State at 3 pm and Rogers State at 7 pm.
