Box Score LAWTON, Okla. –
Chelsea Stamp broke her record for three pointers made in a season as Cameron rolled to a 83-69 win over Texas A&M Kingsville at the Aggie Gym.
The win for Cameron (12-12, 4-10 LSC) opens the door for the Lone Star Conference Tournament by tying them with Kingsville for eighth. Cameron holds the tiebreaker presently over the Javelinas with the highest conference win which was their sweep over Tarleton State earlier this season.
With five three-pointers on Wednesday night Stamp moved to 67 for the season; the previous record was 65 which Stamp set last season. Stamp ended the night with 17 points going 5-6 from the arc.
Jade Herl had a career night with 20 points and was a three-pointers short of a program record with six. Additionally,
Christina Caddy had a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, and
Ali Brown scored 11.
"We have about five different players averaging around nine points," said head coach
Tom Webb."We have different kids stepping up every night. Tonight was just a good team effort."
Jazzmine Robinson was the other Aggie in double-digits with 10 points.
As a group the Aggies went a season high 57.4% (27-47) from the field and sank 12 shots from downtown.
Stamp broke her three-point program record quickly with three straight shots from beyond the arc. The Aggies offense swarmed Kingsville and opened up a 19 point lead by the seven minute mark and went to the locker room leading 47-29 at the half. Cameron shot a blazing 61% (15-25) from the field in the first 20 minutes.
"Our kids looked rested and energetic tonight, and they kept battling," said Webb. "They did a great job on the glass."
In the second half the Aggies maintained their double-digit lead and the closest TAMUK got was 13 points in the closing minutes of the game.
Cameron will hit the road on Saturday for the final time in the regular season to face Angelo State.
