Softball splits home opener with Eastern New Mexico

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron's home opener was a tale of two different games with Eastern New Mexico winning 9-1 in five innings in game one; the Aggies returned the favor with the exact same result in game two on Friday afternoon at McMahon Field.

The Aggies earned their twelfth win of the season but opened Lone Star Conference play with a split.

In game one the Zias jumped ahead with a three run first inning and never looked back to take Cameron's home opener 9-1 in five innings.
Cameron plated their only run in the second inning off of a Carly Allerheiligen single to score Sonora Zukerman in from third base. 

The Aggies managed to tally four hits while Eastern New Mexico scored three in the top of third, added one more in the fourth, and two runs in the fifth.

Zia batters would tag Sam Betts (5-1) with 11 hits and nine earned runs in the loss.

Cameron's bats came alive early with Misty Dooley leading the game off with a double and advanced off of a passed ball; Macy McKay would send Dooley home off of a sacrifice ground ball.   Tara Martini followed up with a no doubt homer over the right field wall to give CU the 2-0 lead.

In the second inning, the Aggies batted through the order with three hits to score four runs to give them the 6-0 lead.  Martini would her rake second hit of the game with a double into right center to drive in pair of Aggie runners.

The Zias got their sole run came off of a passed ball on a strikeout in the fourth to make it a 6-1 ballgame. 

Cameron went to business with two outs in the fifth after Allerheiligen drew a walk which led to three hits and McKay run ruling-the Zias with a single scoring two runners to win the game 9-1 in five innings.

Dooley went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI; Martini knocked in her sixth homer of the season with three RBI. 

Kelsey Watson (5-3) pitched a complete game with four strikeouts and only coughed up three ENMU hits.

Cameron (12-5, 1-1 LSC) will return to action on Saturday for the final game of the series at noon.
