Tip OffThe Aggies are coming off of two straight losses to Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's. But, the TexAnns are the team the Aggies want to face to break their five game losing streak, as CU will look to make it three straight upsets over TSU.
Last Time Out for CUThis week has been a tough one for the Ags, losing two back to back games against the Lions and Pioneers. A trending theme with both games was that the Cameron shooters were not knocking down there long balls like usual. The Aggies shot below 30% from behind the arc in both games, and
Chelsea Stamp and
Jade Herl combined for only six three pointers through both games. While Stamp and
Jazzmine Robinson led the way against Commerce with 13 points each,
Ali Brown picked up the slack against TWU with 16 points; one short of tying a career high.
Against Tarleton StateThe TexAnns own the series lead over Cameron, 15-11, but have lost the last two matchups with the Ags, including last year's battle at the Aggie Gym.
Last Time Against TSUOn Jan. 1, the Aggies went down to Stephenville and upset the then ranked #17 Tarleton State, 69-65. Cameron had four players score in double digits, and shot 50% from behind the arc. Stamp and Brown led the way with 13 points a piece.
Scouting the TexAnnsThe #21 ranked TexAnns are 16-4 and 7-3 in the LSC coming into their second bout of the season with the Aggies. Since getting upset by CU, the TexAnns have gone 3-2. Most recently, they defeated Midwestern State, 78-75 at Wisdom Gym.
Due to their recent losses, Tarleton State has fallen to second in the LSC to West Texas A&M not only in the standings, but in most statistical categories as well. They are second in scoring and scoring margin, and their defense is still tops in blocked shots and field goal defense.
The TexAnns still have one of the most dangerous weapons in the LSC in Kiarra Wright, who is averaging
21.4 points and 12.6 rebounds per game, while also shooting .646 from the field. They also have Briana Bledsoe and Kathy Thomas, who both average over 10 points a game, while Bledsoe is tops in the league from the free throw line. The Aggies will also have to lookout for Shanae Lowrance in the paint, as she has taken over as the top shot blocker in the LSC with 1.3 per game.
Coming UpAfter the contest with the TexAnns, Cameron will be down to five games left in the regular season. They kick off the back stretch by hosting Eastern New Mexico on Feb. 12, and then traveling to Canyon, Texas on Feb. 15 for a match-up with #5 West Texas A&M.
