Christina Caddy's career night was topped off with the Cameron University women's basketball team dropping #21 Tarleton State 76-72 in overtime.
Caddy's career high 20 rebounds was the highest total for an Aggie since Sabelle Diata pulled down that number three years ago; Caddy completed a double-double and added 15 points.
The win for Cameron (10-11, 2-9 LSC) snapped a five game losing streak that dated back to Jan. 18 against the very same Tarleton State squad.
"I'm proud of the way they played," said head coach
Tom Webb. "At the end of the day, I really like our chances (going forward). They're going go out and fight and compete."
Ali Brown was a rebound short of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds,
Brittany Harris had 14 points, and
Jazzmine Robinson chipped in 12.
Cameron dominated the glass with 50 rebounds while Tarleton State had 34; the Aggies edged TSU in shooting going 40.6% (26-64) on the floor while the TexAnns went 38.7% (24-62) on their end of the court.
Tarleton State (16-5, 7-4) who has dropped three in a row to Cameron had three players in double-figures. Kiara Wright had a double-double and led TSU with 27 points and 12 rebounds.
The Ags rallied early from an 11-4 TexAnn lead and tied the game midway through the half. Both teams traded buckets but pulled Cameron ahead 37-36 with 18 seconds left before TSU got put to the line after a foul; Tarleton would hit both shots to take a slim 38-37 in the locker room.
Quickly out of the gates Cameron nailed a pair of buckets from Reinke and Caddy to swing out in front 41-38. Tarleton State would tie the game at 41 after a three-ball but the Ags responded back with 10 unanswered points to lead at the 12 minute mark 51-41.
Despite the 10 point Cameron lead, Tarleton State rallied back and overtook the Aggies 63-62 with two minutes remaining. After pair of missed TSU free-throws with a minute left, Robinson tossed a layup to put CU out in front 64-63 once more. In the next possession TSU's Kiara Wright dropped down a bucket and was send to the line with 40 seconds left. Wright would hit the and-one opportunity to go up 66-64; Caddy on the Aggie end would nail a layup to tie the game and send it to overtime.
TSU took the first bucket in overtime and Cameron stayed on the TexAnns heels and pulled out in front 69-68 after
Chelsea Stamp nailed in a go-ahead three-pointer. After exchanging leads Robinson provided the 17
th and last lead change (73-72) of the night nailing a bucket with a minute to go.
Cameron will remain at home on Wednesday, Feb. 12 to host Eastern New Mexico at 6 pm.
