Box Score WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Cameron held onto an early lead over Texas Woman's but they would fall in eight innings, 4-3, in their first game of the Lone Star Conference Showcase in Wichita Falls.
The loss for Cameron is their fourth in a row in league play to give them a 13-9 overall record and a 2-5 LSC record.Â
Macy McKay and
Tara Martini had a two hit evening for the Ags with
Breezy McComas hitting a homer.
Kelsey Watson started the game and went four innings while giving up two earned runs,
Sam Betts (5-3) tossed 3 2/3 innings and gave up a pair of runs (one unearned).
Cameron struck first in the top of the third with
Misty Dooley scoring off of a Pioneer fielding error. Â McComas later tacked on one more run for the Ags in the fourth with her fifth homer of the season to give them a 2-0 lead.
Texas Woman's chipped away at Cameron's lead in the bottom of the fourth with a single up the middle to score one run.Â
The TWU assault continued in the fifth after they loaded the bases with no outs and got the go-ahead run off of a RBI single that scored a pair to give them a 3-2 lead over CU.
In the sixth,
Emily Nix took advantage of a wild pitch off of a strikeout to put a runner on with one out;
Carly Allerheiligen would then draw a walk to put two runners on. Following a
Makenzie Burk fielder's choice Dooley plated Allerheiligen to tie the game at three. Â Â
After a scoreless seventh the Aggies were pushed to extra frames for the first time since March 15, 2013 at Incarnate Word.Â
Cameron went down in order in the top of the eighth and Betts who came in as a reliever for Watson in the fifth mowed down the first two TWU hitters. Â However, with two outs the Pioneers knocked in a double down the left field line to put a runner in scoring position; the next
TWU hitter then would single to left field to score the game winning run.
The Aggies will play two more games on Friday at Mustangs Park to face #1 West Texas A&M at 11 am and Eastern New Mexico at 4 pm.
