Box Score 2 LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron matched their win total from the last two seasons after sweeping the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma 8-1 and 8-0 at McMahon Field on Wednesday afternoon.
With 21 games remaining Cameron is 17-9 overall and dominated USAO in the circle and at the plate. Â
In the circle Cameron's pitching staff allowed only one run and five hits.
Tara Martini went 3 for 8 at the plate with five RBI on Wednesday with
Emily Nix having a career day in game one with a homer and five RBI.Â
Science and Arts jumped ahead in the opening frame after getting a run off of a one out double to right field. The Lady Drover lead was short lived through after Martini smashed her seventh homer of the season to put Cameron in front 2-1.Â
Cameron plugged in three more runs in the second inning with Nix hitting a single to score a pair of runs and
Misty Dooley plating Nix in off of another Aggie single.
Nix added to the Aggies' lead in the third with a homer to left center to give Cameron the 8-1 advantage.
Both teams would go silent at the plate the rest of the way with CU cruising to the win.
With the exception of a run given up in the opening frame
Sam Betts (7-3) tossed a complete game and she struck out a pair of hitters.
In the nightcap Cameron jumped out in front with a pair runs in the first with Martini hitting a single score a run and
Kolbee Gray hitting a ground ball to plate Martini in from third.
The Aggies added two more in the second with
Macy McKay and Martini getting a RBI to give them a 4-0 lead.
After a scoreless third, the Aggie bats came alive once again in fourth with four hits and three additional runs extend their lead to seven.
Kelsey Watson flirted with a no-hitter and it would take until the fifth inning before USAO was able to get a hit off of her.Â
However, this would be the Lady Drovers only hit of the day as Cameron run ruled them in the sixth inning with
Sonora Zukerman hitting a double down the line to score Martini in for the win.
Watson (8-5) tossed a complete game with a six strikeouts.
Cameron will return to Lone Star Conference action with a pair of doubleheaders starting on Friday against Angelo State.
