Softball visits Texas A&M Kingsville for four games

KINGSVILLE, Texas –  The Cameron University softball team will make their furthest trek of the year to Texas A&M Kingsville starting on Friday for a four game series.
 
Heading into the weekend trip the Aggies have won five of their last seven games including one against top-ranked West Texas A&M and a pair against #12 Angelo State.   With a 19-11 overall record the Aggies are one win away from their first 20 win season since 2011 and eleventh overall.
 
Despite being in sixth place with a 5-7 Lone Star Conference record, Cameron is three games back of third place with their next eight league games having a combined 23-42 record.
 
With an 8-25 overall and 2-11 league record, Texas A&M Kingsville has lost six of their last seven contests with their lone win coming on Tuesday against Texas A&M International.  The Javelinas' two conference wins have come against Tarleton State, Cameron's opponent next weekend.
 
Last season Cameron swept the three game season series in Lawton but in Kingsville they are 1-11 overall in program history; the Javelinas own the overall series 6-17 over the Aggies.
 
Within the LSC this season Texas A&M Kingsville is sitting in last in team batting average (.259) and ERA (7.14); Cameron is fifth in batting (.313) and sixth in pitching (4.56).
 
Tara Martini has helped drive the Aggies in the last two weeks with back-to-back LSC Hitter of the Week awards and she inside the top-five in the league in batting average, RBI, doubles, and home runs; nationally she is seventh in RBI per game at 1.46.
