Leading Off

Cameron has an opportunity to make a statement this weekend to move up to third place in the Lone Star Conference standings if they take sweep the three game from Texas Woman's at home.  Due to TWU playing one more league game the final seeding for the LSC Tournament is based off of conference win percentage and only a three game sweep would give CU the higher seed.  At McMahon Field this season the Aggies are 8-3, and they have faced TWU once this season in Wichita Falls where they would fall 3-2 in eight innings.

Pioneers at a Glance
Cameron trails the overall series with TWU 9-21-1 and the Aggies have yet to beat the Pioneers in Lawton.  In eight meetings at Cameron, the Aggies have tied TWU once in 2003, and lost the seven other games.  In the South Central Region the Pioneers are fourth and wins can nothing but help CU's resume for the NCAA Tournament.

In their last 10 games, TWU is 7-3 dropping a game to Tarleton State, Midwestern State, and St. Edward's.   Within the LSC they are third in team batting average (.338) and ERA (3.66).  Individually, Kendra Sancet is fourth with a batting average at .447, she also leads the LSC with 19 homers.  Not far back is TWU speedy veteran, Bailey Vrazel who hits .370 and leads the conference with 40 stolen bases.

In the circle, Brandie Lander should make two appearances this weekend in Lawton with a 2.63 ERA and a 21-3 record.  Katie Hines could appear on Friday with a 9-12 record and a 4.79 ERA

Regionally Ranked
The Cameron softball remains in sixth in the South Central Region in the second NCAA Division II regional rankings that were announced on Wednesday afternoon.

There was no movement in this week's poll with West Texas A&M presently sitting on top followed by Angelo State, St. Mary's, Texas Woman's, and Metro State.  Midwestern State sits in seventh behind the Aggies with St. Edward's, UC-Colorado Springs, and Colorado State-Pueblo rounding out the rest of the top-10 in the region.

The top two teams in the final regional rankings will host a four-team South Central Regional Tournament with a double-elimination format followed by the winner of those regional facing off in a three-game South Central Super Regional taking place at the highest remaining seed for a chance to advance to the 2014 DII College World Series in Salem, Virginia.

Against the Top-25
Cameron has played nine games against teams who were ranked in the NFCA National Top-25  and they are 3-6 with a pair of losses in extra innings.

Streaking
Tara Martini has gone 28 straight games where she has reached base and Misty Dooley three games back of Martini with 25.  This is the longest active streak for an Aggie hitter since 2009 when Megan Young went 27 games in a row.

Historical Markers
Sam Betts is fourth on CU's career list with 226 in her senior season.  At the plate, with 114 RBI Tara Martini is now third all-time at Cameron; Megan Young holds the program mark with 160 from 2006-09.  Martini is tied for second in RBI in a season with 56, Young leads all CU batters with 70 during the 2007 season.

Senior Day
Saturday's contest with TWU will serve as Senior Day with the Cameron softball team honoring Kelsy Hebert and Sam Betts.

This week in the LSC
The Lone Star Conference champion will be decided this weekend as co-league leaders West Texas A&M and Angelo State square off in Canyon, Texas. The Lady Buffs have won 17 straight games for the second time this season.

The field is set for the championship with ASU, WT, Texas Woman's, Midwestern State, Cameron, and Tarleton State clinching the six spots with seeding still to be determined. The single-elimination event will be played May 2-3, at the No. 1 seed.

This week's schedule includes non-conference action plus league doubleheaders with Texas A&M Kingsville at Eastern New Mexico, Tarleton State at Midwestern State, Texas Woman's at Cameron, and Angelo State at West Texas A&M.

The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning percentage in regular-season conference games, while the winner of the postseason championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and receive the league's automatic qualification into NCAA postseason.
