Softball splits doubleheader with Texas Woman's

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAWTON, Okla. –  The Cameron softball team fell 7-1 in game one but recovered 6-4 in the nightcap to spilt an afternoon doubleheader with #25 Texas Woman's on Friday afternoon at McMahon Field.

With the split the Aggies cannot move to up in the Lone Star Confernece standings to third place and a loss by Tarleton State on Friday night will set CU up with Midwestern State in the LSC Tournament next week.

After four scoreless innings in game one the Pioneers struck first with a four run inning off of a pair of hits and an Aggie error. 

Cameron would go hitless at the plate until Misty Dooley broke up a no-hit bid with two outs in the fifth.

TWU added a run off of a one out double in the seventh and they added two more after a homer to give them a 7-0 lead in the seventh inning.

Macy McKay gave CU their second hit with a two out double and a RBI single by Dooley ended the shutout but they would fall 7-1 to TWU.

Kelsey Watson (15-9) tossed a complete game and gave up seven runs (five earned) in the loss.

In the nightcap, Cameron opened up with the lead after Paige Daino hit a three run shot down the left field line and Sonora Zukerman followed it up with a blast to center field to give CU the 4-0 lead.

A TWU triple in the second scored a pair in the second inning before Zukerman added CU's fifth run of the game off of a fielder's choice to make it a 5-2 advantage for the Aggies.

The Pioneers didn't give up though and they plated a pair in the fifth after loading the bases with no outs to pull within a run.  However, Cameron escaped a big inning though with a strikeout and a double play coming off of a sacrifice bunt.

Zukerman continued to help the CU cause bottom half of the inning and she hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Breezy McComas in from third to score the insurance run to win 6-4.

Sam Betts (12-7) earned the win after going four innings; she would give up four earned runs.  Watson wrapped up the game for her third save of the season to record the final nine outs.

With the split the Aggies will move to 29-17 overall, 15-11 in LSC play and they will come back on Saturday to wrap up the regular season with TWU at noon.
