Aggies split series with TexAnns; clinch postseason berth

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Cameron split their final two games 7-6 and 11-3 against Tarleton State on Saturday afternoon in Stephenville.

With the split the Aggies move to 25-13 overall and 11-9 in the Lone Star Conference and with seven games to go in league play they have clinched a spot in the upcoming league tournament at the end of the month.

Cameron holds a two game lead on Tarleton State for the six seed but they are a game and a half back of Texas Woman's who is in third place and game back of Midwestern State four fourth.   Both TWU and MSU are the remaining league games Cameron has left.

After a number of comebacks this season Cameron got a taste of their own medicine in game one against the TexAnns.

Cameron rallied back from a 4-1 deficit with a five run sixth inning, Breezy McComas hit a solo homer to start the CU scoring.  Later in the same inning Kelsy Hebert came off the bench with a two out double to left center to tie the game at four scoring Carly Allerheiligen and Paige Daino

Macy McKay continued the hit parade and plated two more runs off a single to second base to give CU the 6-4 lead.

Despite the CU advantage, Tarleton had the last laugh with two outs and tied the game with a triple to center field and knocked in the go-head run with a single to win 7-6.

Sam Betts went 5 1/3 innings and gave up six runs in the no-decision; Kelsey Watson (12-7) recorded the final two outs and coughed up the go-ahead run in the loss.

Game two was all Aggies from start to finish after jumping out to an 11-0 in the first three innings over Tarleton State.

Cameron pounced on four TSU errors and Tara Martini knocked in three runs off of a pair hits to lead the Aggie attack, she would also show some flash on the base paths with three stolen bases.

A three run homer in the bottom of the third would be all of TSU's offense as Watson (13-7) went all five innings in the run-ruled contest.

Makenzie Burk and Sonora Zukerman both added a pair of RBI and hits in the CU win.

Cameron will return to the diamond on Tuesday to play a non-conference doubleheader at Oklahoma Christian starting at 5 pm.
