Ags comeback falls short in LSC Semifinal

Box Score CANYON, Texas – A seventh inning rally for the Cameron Softball team fell short as they would fall to #1 West Texas A&M 4-2 in the Lone Star Conference Championship Semifinal on Friday night.

The Aggies out hit the top ranked Lady Buffs 7-5 as Cameron would move to 30-19 overall for the season.

Regardless of the loss on Friday night the Aggies have a strong possibility of advancing to the NCAA National Tournament next weekend; an official call from the NCAA will come on Monday at 9 a.m. on NCAA.com.

"The girls fought hard and played two really tough games," said head coach Rodney DeLong. "Our mental toughness has what made this year really special for us, we know that can build on today's effort and play with anyone in the country."

West Texas A&M scored first with a run off of an Aggie error and after a scoreless second they plated three runs in the third to lead 4-0.

Cameron did make things interesting in the seventh inning after getting the tying run on deck.  Kelsy Hebert singled up the middle with two outs and scored Carly Allerheiligen for CU's first run, Macy McKay kept the Ags alive with a single left field to score Emily Nix.  However, the CU run would end with a chopper to second base to fall to WT 4-2.

Sam Betts (12-8) struck out a pair and gave up four runs (three earned), Kelsey Watson closed out the contest with six strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings of work.

With the win for West Texas A&M they will advance to the LSC title game on Saturday at 2 p.m., the winner will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
