Game Notes

First tip: Cameron will open their 23rd Lone Star Conference schedule with a pair of tough road contests at West Texas A&M and Tarleton State.  In league openers, the Aggies have won eight times with last season's win at Eastern New Mexico snapping a three game skid.  The contest with West Texas A&M on New Year's Eve is the first for the Aggies since 2011 where they visited East Central and won 70-56.  Cameron has played one other time on New Year's Eve in 2003 at St. Mary's and won 56-53.  Both contests were non-conference victories for CU and Thursday's game will be the first time the Aggies will play a league game on New Year's Eve.

The Aggies' six wins have come in pairs this season with CU entering LSC play on a two game winning streak.  As a team, Cameron continues to lead the LSC in three-pointers per game with 9.8, which is fifth highest in nation.  Brandi Leal, leads CU scorers with 10.9 points per game and she is 18th highest nationally with 3.2 made three-pointers per game.  Through nine games this season, Cameron has the third best scoring offense in the LSC with 68.9 points per game.

Last time out: The Cameron women's basketball team closed out their non-conference slate with an exclamation point by dominating Northwestern Oklahoma 83-41 in Alva.   Cameron's victory over the Rangers is the largest in the NCAA Division II era for the Aggies and biggest win margin since Nov. 25, 2013 when CU beat Hillsdale Free Will Baptist 93-48.

Cameron led from buzzer-to-buzzer with ten Aggies contributing to the scoring effort shooting 29-for-55 from the field with 13 made three-pointers.  Brittany Hill scored a career high 21 points off the bench thanks to five make three pointers; Dayla Threatt put up 15 points and Natalie Halbleib also hit double-figures with 12 points. Markita Zeigler also had a season high eight points.

DJ Vallier and Halbleib led the Aggies with seven rebounds each and CU dominated the boards overall by 16 with 46 total rebounds.  Charron Montgomery had a team high three steals with Cameron scoring 24 points off of 13 Ranger turnovers.

Cameron's defense held Northwestern Oklahoma to only four made shots in the first 20 minutes and 27.4% for the entirety of the contest, a 54 game low.

About West Texas A&M: The Lady Buffs have climbed seven spots up the leaderboard since the season's beginning to rest at No. 2 in the nation for their highest ranking since beginning the 2014-15 season at No. 1. In the league, WT was picked to repeat as Lone Star Conference champions in the preseason LSC poll after the Lady Buffs won their second-straight Lone Star Conference regular season and tournament titles and second-straight NCAA South Central Region title.  WT has gone 30-2 the last two years in Lone Star Conference play and 62-6 overall. The Lady Buffs are 10-0 to start the current season following two months of nonconference action for their best start since the 1995-96 season where they won 16 straight games. The team is second in league scoring averaging 70.2 ppg and first in scoring defense, allowing 50.5 points per contest on the opponent's side of the court. The squad is shooting 44% from the field and 34% at the arc behind top scorers Sasha Watson (10.5 ppg), who was tabbed as Preseason Player of the Year, and Michaela Neuhaus (10.2 ppg).

CU vs. WT: West Texas A&M has dominated the overall series with a 34-3 advantage and have won the last eight in a row.  The Lady Buffs eliminated Cameron in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament last March 80-61 in WT's gym in Canyon where the Aggies are 1-18.    Cameron's lone win at West Texas A&M came on Jan 14, 2012 (60-56).

About Tarleton State: The TexAnns will be in Denton at Texas Woman's University prior to facing the Aggies and are untested on the road with one true away contest.  Last time out they lost to Montana State-Billings in Las Vegas (74-62).  As a team, Tarleton State is averaging 68 points a game and 39 rebounds per outing.  Tarleton State is the best team at free throws in the LSC with a 78.5% success rate.  However, in blocked shots they are last in the LSC with just one a game.  Bailey Wipff is second in the LSC in scoring with 12.1 points and Ikpeaku Iwobi is second best in rebounding with 9.1 per game.

CU vs. TSU Series: Cameron has had the TexAnns number in the last few season by winning the last five meetings.  However, this came after Tarleton State won eight straight against the Aggies.  The overall series is split evenly with Cameron a slight 14-13 edge and in Wisdom Gym, CU is 6-6 overall.
