NCAA Regional Notes

Leading Off

1.    Cameron is the only team in the nation with three players in the top-7 nationally in home runs (Tara Martini, Lauren Renneker, and Paige Daino).
2.    The Aggies picked up 13 points on the NFCA Coaches Poll and are the first team outside the top-25.  West Texas A&M came in at number-3 and Angelo State is receiving votes in the poll.
3.    Cameron pitchers have the second highest strikeout total in the Lone Star Conference with 253.
4.    Across all NCAA Divisions, the Aggies have the seventh most homers (94)and RBI (377), and seventh in runs (406).  Martini is 15th highest at all levels in homers and Renneker is 17th best.
5.    Angelo State has played their last five games in a row against the Aggies.

Aggies at the NCAA Tournament 
Cameron is making their second NCAA Regional appearance in a row.  Last season, CU went 1-2 at Angelo State and was eliminated in the regional by the Rambelles by a score of 4-3.  All four schools are from the Lone Star Conference and is a return trip to Canyon for ASU, Cameron, and Tarleton State.  During the regular season, CU split with the TexAnns, dropped four of five with WT, and won four of five with Angelo State.

Nationally Speaking
Cameron holds the third best batting average (.356) and homers per game (1.71), they are fifth best in scoring (7.38) and fourth in slugging percentage (.607), fifth in on base percentage (.429), and tenth in fielding percentage (.974).

Broken Records
- Cameron has hit season program marks with a 17 game win streak, 39 wins to date, 94 home runs,  372  RBI, 172 walks, and 406 runs.
- Tara Martini is CU's all-time leader with 182 RBI and 21 homers in season.
- Misty Dooley tied a LSC record with five runs against Oklahoma Christian, her mark is highest in a game for an Aggie player.

Chasing Records
- Martini is two doubles away from passing Megan Young (2006-09) who had 55 doubles in her four year career at Cameron
- Lauren Renneker (20) and Paige Daino (19) are chasing Martini who has 21 homers this season as the CU single season homerun mark  The prior record was set by Shareena Pulse who had 19 homers in 2009.  
- Kelsey Watson has nine shutouts this season which is one short of tying Carrie Dilks who had 10 in 2011, Watson has 15 career shutouts which is three short of Dilks' record. 
- Misty Dooley and Martini are chasing each other for second place in as the owner of second all-time in runs Cameron. Martini holds an eight run lead over Dooley with 155.

CU Notebook
- The Aggies have two (Macy McKay and Lauren Renneker) who were on squads that reached the College World Series, McKay in 2012 with Central Oklahoma and Renneker in 2014 with Southeastern Oklahoma; both are Lawton natives.
- Cameron has 10 players who came from the same high school (MacArthur, Cache, Denton-Ryan).
- Lauren Renneker's mother Gladys, coached the Aggie softball program from 1997-2005 and is Cameron's winningest coach with 170 wins.
- There are seven players on Cameron's roster than are from Lawton, with six playing at MacArthur High School.
- Head Coach Rodney DeLong and CU catcher Chelsea DeLong are siblings.
- Established in 1977, Cameron has the longest continually operating softball program in the Lone Star Conference. 

Angelo State (33-15-1, 15-12-1 LSC)
- Angelo State holds a 33-8 lead in the overall series against CU, after the Aggies run-ruled ASU in the first round of the LSC Tournament, 13-4. Cameron had 17 hits and five homers off of the LSC Pitcher of the Year Brandy Marlett. 
- The Rambelles' last five games have come against CU, with the Ags taking the last four meetings. They received the five seed in the South Central Region.    
- ASU is now second in the LSC with a 3.00 team ERA, while freshman Marlett has the second lowest individual ERA in the league at 2.46, struck out the second most batters (154), and has the lowest opponent's batting average (.226). However, the Aggies have struck for 22 runs on 26 hits against her in the past two games against her. 
- Madison Greenwell leads ASU at the plate with a .359 batting average and 55 hits, while Kennedy Urbany has a .356 batting average and leads the Belles with 10 homers and 33 RBI. - Angelo State had five players receive LSC All-Conference honors and two won a Gold Glove.

West Texas A&M (44-9; 22-6 LSC)
- West Texas A&M holds a 23-6 advantage over the Aggies in their overall series against each other, with their last win coming last weekend in the second round of the LSC Tournament as WT won 10-3. The Buffs had 10 hits, including three homers against CU pitching, while CU's only runs came in the fifth inning on a three run homer from Lauren Renneker. 
- The Lady Buffs enter the regional as the LSC Tournament and regular season champs after they had a bye in the first round and the beat CU in round two and Texas Woman's in the championship game, 9-6. They received the top seed in the South Central Region. 
- The Lady Buffs are second in the nation and first in the LSC with a .369 team batting average. They have the top three hitting players in the conference with Lacey Taylor leading the way with a .456 clip, and three others also above .400. Renee Erwin is one of those, as she is hitting .438 and leads the nation with 23 homeruns, 81 runs scored, and has 71 RBI.  She has a slugging percentage of 1.059. She went 2-3 with a homerun and two runs scored in the LSC semifinal against CU.
- They are led in the circle by Rita Hokianga, who is 19-5 in 125 innings pitched, with a 3.36 ERA and 131 strikeouts. In the semifinal against the Ags, she pitched seven innings, gave up three runs on eight hits, and nine strikeouts. The Lady Buffs had nine all-conference selections, three Gold Glove awards, an LSC Player of the Year award from Erwin, and an LSC Freshman of the Year award from Allie Smith.

Tarleton State (44-9; 22-6 LSC)
- The TexAnns and the Aggies split their series during the regular season, as the Aggies won games one and three 4-3 and 6-1, and TSU won games two and four 7-4 and 6-5. Kelsey Watson struck out 18 TexAnn batters in her three games pitched against them.
- Tarleton State finished the regular season in third in the LSC standings. After taking down Texas A&M-Commerce in the first round 2-1, TSU lost in five innings to Texas Woman's 9-1 in the semifinal game.
- The TexAnns are hitting .327 as a team and have 43 homers, 15 triples, and 68 stolen bases on the season. Nyka Wood is their top hitter, as she is hitting .404 with six homers and 52 RBI. Katelyn Conlee leads TSU with 11 homers and 53 RBI, while Melody Mayer has scored a team high 54 times and has 26 stolen bases.
- In the circle, TSU has a team ERA of 4.24 with 150 total strikeouts and an opponent's batting average of .301. Haley Freyman is their workhorse as she is 20-12 in 195 innings pitched with a 3.12 ERA and 79 punch-outs. Five Tarleton State players received all-conference honors while one received a Gold Glove award.

Coming Up
Should Cameron advance out of the regional bracket they will play a best of three series at the top-seed location from the other South Central bracket at St. Mary's.
