Belote pitches shutout in CU's doubleheader split of No. 21 West Texas A&M

CANYON, Texas– Cameron concluded its series at No. 21 West Texas A&M with a doubleheader split on Sunday. The Aggies fell 9-7 in a seven inning first game but won the nightcap in a 4-0 nine inning shutout.

With the split, Cameron moves to 24-15, and 12-14 in the Lone Star Conference, and West Texas A&M is now 29-12 with a 17-9 league record.

In game one, WT got things started with four runs in their opening frame. Cameron would respond back in the top of the second to plate five Aggies off four hits for the lead.

The Buffs would tie it up at five in the third with an RBI double and extend their lead to 9-5 with a five hit fourth inning. A pair of RBI singles led them off, and they would tack on two more scoring on a sac fly and an Aggie error.

Cameron narrowed the Buffs' lead to two as Russ Colgan drove a two run homer over right field in the bottom of sixth, but the Aggies had nothing doing in the seventh to fall 9-7.

The Buffs out-hit the Aggies 15 to eight with CU recording two errors.

Codey Upton (4-2) was charged with the loss, allowing three hits and four earned runs in 2.1 innings following starter Blake Welch's first inning five hits and four runs allowed on the mound. Tyler Abrego concluded for Cameron allowing two hits and no runs.

In the final game of the series, Cameron struck first in the third inning, scoring two runs on a RBI single and fielder's choice. The Aggies remained ahead 2-0 into the top of the seventh when Brandon Wright hit a two-run shot to right field, furthering CU's advantage to 4-0.

The Buffs failed to score as Bryan Belote (4-3) pitched all nine innings in the four hit shutout. He fanned five batters and walked one.

Cameron manufactured nine hits in the nightcap. Bronson Pulgados and Jorden Fields each had four hits on the doubleheader.
