Aggie comeback falls short against Texas A&M-Kingsville

KINGSVILLE, Texas – After trailing the whole game the Aggie baseball team came back with two runs in the top of the ninth, but fell short as they lost 3-2 to no. 25 Texas A&M-Kingsville on Sunday to complete the four game series.

After winning the first three games of the series, Cameron took the series 3-1 and is now 18-7 on the season, while the Javelinas are now 12-7.

TAMUK put one run on the board in both the second and third innings to take an early 2-0 lead. They put another run up in the seventh to extend their lead to three runs.

Cameron was held scoreless through the first eight innings, but in the ninth they finally got on the scoreboard. With one out, Anthony Acevedo drove in Micah Kauukai on a RBI groundout to give CU their first run of the game. Cody Bower, who had four RBI yesterday, came in to pinch hit and drove in Kameron Good, who doubled earlier in the inning, on a single to right. Cole Williams then reached base to put two runners on with two outs. Unfortunately, that was where the comeback ended as Leno Ramirez flew out to end the game.

???????Gaige Vines got credited with the loss, as he went the first 4.1 innings and gave up one earned run on seven hits with three strikeouts. Tyler Abrego pitched the final 3.2 innings, giving up just one run on four hits with four strikeouts.

The six Aggie hits came from six different people, with Avevedo and Bower supplying the two RBI.

Zach Wilson got the win for Kingsville, going 8.2 innings with 10 strikeouts, while Tyler Crouch got the last out and the save.

Cameron and Texas A&M-Kingsville will play each other again, in the final series of the regular season on May 5-7 in Lawton, Okla.

The Aggies will officially begin Lone Star Conference play next weekend as they visit no. 2 Angelo State, March 24-26 for a four game road series.
