CU picks up first LSC win in ENMU double header split

LAWTON, Okla. – While the Cameron baseball team started off their series against Eastern New Mexico with an 8-2 loss, the Aggies came back around to take game two 15-5 of their double header on Friday.

The nightcap win over the Greyhounds brought CU their first Lone Star Conference victory of the season as they are now 19-12 overall and 1-5 in the league. ENMU is 23-9 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

The Aggies experienced an offensive lull in the series opener, only recording two hits by Leno Ramirez and Cody Bower, while the Greyhounds manufactured 11 hits themselves.

CU did get on the board first in the bottom of the opening frame on a bases loaded hit by pitch and later scored on a fielder's choice. However, ENMU would tie it up in the second with a pair of RBI singles.

Another pair of singles in the third and a bases loaded walk allowed the Greyhounds to take a 7-2 edge, and they tacked on an insurance run in the fifth on a double to left field.

Gaige Vines (2-4) was charged with the loss after allowing all seven runs earned in three innings. John Millan pitched the remaining four, allowing just one run and three hits through 14 batters faced.

Game two had an opposite turn for the Aggies as they won 15-5 by an eight-inning run rule. That game CU out-hit the Greyhounds 15-10, and had just one error to ENMU's three.

Micah Kaaukai and Anthony Acevedo both hit 3-for-5 at the plate, with Kaaukai batting in three runs and Acevedo two. Pulgados also had 3 RBI in the game.

CU held a 4-0 lead through the third inning, which ENMU would close in to tie through the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Aggies scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 7-4 ballgame.

The seventh saw the Greyhounds final run of the game on an RBI single before the Aggies unleashed for six runs in the bottom of the frame.

In the eighth, CU won by run-rule pulling ahead by ten runs on a bases loaded walk and single up the middle to win 15-5.

Tyler Abrego moved to 3-0 on the mound with the win after pitching 2.2 innings where he allowed just one hit and one run. Starter Andrew Garza pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four runs, three of which were earned.

The series resumes Saturday with an 11 a.m. double header start at McCord Field.
