Aggies take down OBU 11-5

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University baseball team posted an eight run fourth inning on their way to an 11-5 win over Oklahoma Baptist on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bison, now 5-2, started off the scoring by putting three runs up on the board in the top of the third, one coming on a lead off solo shot by Juan Gonzalez.

After a scoreless third, it was the Aggies turn to put up some runs as they hung an eight spot in the bottom of the fourth. Cameron loaded the bases to lead off the inning via a pair of walks and a single. Cole Williams was then hit by a pitch and then a batter later Michael Flohr was hit, cutting the lead to 3-2. Joseph Fortuny then came up and drove in a run on a single through the left side to tie the game.

With the game knotted up at three, the Aggies were not done. Colton Adams came up and reached on an error and then Micah Kaaukai hit and infield single to bring in two more. Luke Hughes then walked to drive in another run and a batter later Trey Bigford walked to make it 7-3. The final run of the inning came when Hughes scored on a wild pitch.

Cameron wasn't done in the fourth. The Aggies added three more runs in the fifth, two on an Adams homer and another on a wild pitch, making it 11-3 in favor of the Black and Gold.

OBU would cut into the CU lead with runs in the sixth and eighth innings, but the Aggie pitching closed the door in the ninth.

Reid Garrett came into the game in the fourth and pitched the next 3.1 to get the win. He gave up just one run on five hits with three strikeouts. Skyler Henderson, Abraham Renteria, and Sean Maher combined to finish off the final 2.1 with a combined two strikeouts and just one run on two hits.

Adams had a three RBI day, including his two run homer in the fifth. Bigford led the Aggies with two hits, while Kaaukai, Hughes, and Fortuny each scored a pair of runs.

Cameron is now 6-1 on the season. They will host Northwest Missouri State this Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 17-18 for a three game series. Saturday will consist of a doubleheader beginning at noon, while Sunday will be a single game starting at 1 p.m.
