CU Baseball splits doubleheader at SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla.— The Cameron baseball team closed out their home-and-home series with Southwestern Oklahoma State by falling 4-6 in game one but winning the night cap 11-10 on Saturday.

In the day's opening game, SWOSU gained a 2-0 lead with a homerun, but CU would plate three unearned in the fourth to make it 3-2 after Kameron Good brought in one on a SAC bunt and Colton Adams and Trey Bigford each doubled in a run.

The sixth inning saw back-to-back errors by CU's pitcher allowing runs to score for the Ags to trail 4-3.

Luke Hughes tied it up at four with an RBI single in the seventh, but it would be Cameron's last score as the Bulldogs hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the frame and tacked on an insurance run on a single in the eighth.

Bigford finished the game with two hits, and Cole Williams had two stolen bases.

Reid Garrett was the starter for CU as he pitched five innings, allowed two earned runs and five hits, while striking out eight Bulldogs. Skyler Henderson (0-1) was charged with the loss throwing the final three innings for two earned runs, two hits and two walks but committed two errors in the field.

SWOSU's reliever Brendan Peitsmeyer (1-0) earned the win for the Bulldogs facing 12 Aggies, fanning four and allowed one earned run to score in three innings of work.

Game two was a slugfest for both teams as CU came away with the 11-10 win, even though the Aggies were out-hit 13 to 11 and committed three errors to SWOSU's one.

After having a slight 5-4 edge in the second inning, SWOSU lit up the scoreboard in the third and fourth with a two run homer, and two RBI doubles to take a 9-4 advantage. CU would plate two in the fifth but take the lead with a big sixth inning.

Williams started the chain with a 2 RBI single, and when Bigford singled two scored on an error.  Schiewe rounded out the fest with a RBI single of his own bringing CU an 11-9 advantage.

Cameron allowed just one more run from the Bulldogs in the seventh as Sean Maher came away with the win in 4.1 innings of relief after starter Gaige Vines threw two innings.

Bigford earned the save after facing four batters and allowing just one hit.

Micah Kaaukai and Williams had three hits apiece and both doubled during the game. Williams had two RBI alongside Briton Schiewe who also recorded two hits
