Three game top-25 battle set for Friday and Saturday

LAWTON, Okla. – No. 18 Cameron softball faces their toughest test of the season so far as they host No. 21 Texas A&M-Commerce for a three game series Friday and Saturday, Mach 2-3.

Friday, March 2, the two teams will play a single game beginning at 2 p.m. They will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 3, beginning at 1 p.m.

The 14-3 Aggies welcome in the ranked Lions to McMahon Field after sweeping their last conference series on the road to move to 6-0 in league play. They are batting .282 with 84 runs scored and 15 homeruns. In the circle, the Black and Gold has a team ERA of 1.87 with 89 strikeouts in 116 innings pitched.

Kaitlyn Alvarado leads CU at the plate with a .469 average, while Maydson Marvulli has a team best 16 hits. Brenna Busby and Callie Busby have scored 12 runs on the young season and Annie Combs has a team best 15 RBI while Marvulli has 14.

The Aggie pitching staff has been close to dominant through the first 17 contests. Bethany Hines owns a 7-1 record with a 1.24 ERA in 51 innings of work, while Rylee Willmon is 6-2 with a 2.28 ERA in 55.1 innings pitched. Hines has 44 strikeouts, as Willmon has 42 compared to just eight walks.

Texas A&M-Commerce is 13-1 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in Lone Star Conference play. They are coming off of a sweep of Missouri Southern State last weekend.  As a team, the Lions are batting .354 with 105 runs scored and 12 homers. They also have a team ERA of 3.10 in 92 innings of work with 74 total strikeouts.

Mariah Jameyson leads TAMUC at the plate with 26 RBI and five homers while hitting .488. The LSC Preseason Player of the Year was recently named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week after hitting .833 with 10 RBI last week. Kinsie Hebler is also having a great start to the season, batting .500 with 19 RBI and five homers as well.

In the circle, Emily Otto has gone 6-0 with a 2.06 ERA in 47.2 innings of work. She has 46 strikeouts compared to just six walks. Hebler has also been good for the Lions pitching, going 2-0 in 19 innings pitched with 16 strikeouts.

Following the ranked versus ranked series between the Aggies and the Lions, Cameron will be back on the road as they travel to Tarleton State for a three game series, March 9-10.
