Aggies wrap up regular season at No. 6 ASU

LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggie softball team is set to visit No. 6 Angelo State for their final Lone Star Conference series of the 2018 season this weekend, April 27-28.

The Series:
CU's final three game set of the year will start with a single game at 6 p.m. on Friday against the Belles, and then will conclude on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. All games can be followed live via stats, video, and audio, which can all be found on angelosports.com.

NCAA DII South Central Regional Poll:
The second version of the South Central Regional Poll was released on Wednesday, April 25, and the Aggies were ranked No. 7. CU dropped one spot from last week's initial poll, but still remain within the top-8. Colorado Mesa is No. 1 in the region, while ASU and West Texas A&M, Tarleton State, and Texas A&M-Commerce round out the top-5.

About the Aggies:
Cameron, who is once again receiving votes in the NFCA Top-25 Poll, is coming off a three game sweep of Western New Mexico in their final home series. In that series, CU debuted their new lights, honored their three seniors, and outscored the Mustangs 32-2. Brenna Busby and Callie Busby combined for 11 hits, 11 runs scored, 15 RBI, and four homers (three from Brenna), while CU's pitching staff combined for an ERA of 0.82 with 14 strikeouts.

B. Busby leads the Black and Gold and is top-10 in the league in multiple categories, including runs scored (45), home runs (13), and stolen bases (20). She is hitting .380 on the season and was just recently named CU's Female Athlete of the Year. B. Busby, Annie Combs, and C. Busby are the only three Aggies batting over .300, with Combs batting .330 with 12 doubles and 31 RBI and C. Busby hitting .323 with a team best 35 RBI.

CU's two aces, Rylee Willmon and Bethany Hines, are top-10 in the conference in innings pitched, strikeouts, wins, and saves. Willmon owns a 2.19 ERA with 96 Ks, and a 15-8 record in 150 innings. Hines is 13-7 with a 2.61 ERA and 115 strikeouts in 128.2 innings.

Across the Diamond:
The Rambelles enter the final series of the regular season with a 43-6 overall record and a 23-4 Lone Star Conference mark. They need just one win to clinch their second straight regular season conference title. ASU is batting .335 as a team with 355 runs scored and 63 home runs, while in the circle they have a 1.96 ERA and 299 combined strikeouts.

Teagan Kirk leads the Belles with a .399 batting average, 16 doubles, and 57 RBI, while Karina Rocha is top-10 in the LSC with 15 homers and a .798 slugging percentage; she is also hitting .319. Additionally, five other ASU players are batting over .300, while Courtney Barnhill, who has not played in 75 percent of the team's games, has 13 homers and 36 RBI in 109 at bats. Madison Greenwell and Danae Bina both have 25 stolen bases and over 35 runs scored.

Angelo State's pitching staff include two of the top pitchers in the LSC. Brandy Marlett leads the league with a 1.64 ERA and has 149 Ks in 136.1 innings, while Morgan Hill has 122 strikeouts and a 1.75 ERA in 139.2 innings of work.

On Deck:
Up next for the Aggies will be the Lone Star Conference Tournament, which will be hosted by the regular season champion and take place May 4-5. Cameron is currently in fifth place in the LSC standings, and hold the tiebreak over Texas Woman's who is currently in sixth.
