Softball set to host Greyhounds for three games

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University softball team will host Eastern New Mexico for a three game Lone Star Conference series this weekend, April 6-7.

The Series:
Although severe weather is forecasted for Friday, the three game series will remain as scheduled with the two teams playing a doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m. and then another single game on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Scouting the Aggies:
The Aggies enter the series with the Greyhounds on a three game win streak, having swept their doubleheader on Wednesday against Oklahoma Christian to move to 22-11 on the season. They are also 10-8 in conference play and have gone 1-2 in their past four three-game LSC series.

Cameron is batting .280 with 171 runs score and is third in the league with 72 stolen bases. Brenna Busby leads the team with a .340 batting average, 29 runs scored, and nine homers. She is eighth in the LSC in home runs and seventh in stolen bases (15); she is one of only two players in the conference ranked in the top-10 in homers and stolen bases. Additionally, Annie Combs and Kaitlyn Alvarado are both hitting .333, as Combs leads CU with 25 RBI and 11 doubles, which is sixth in the league.

In the circle, CU has a team ERA of 2.39 with 160 total strikeouts. Rylee Willmon has been dominant in LSC play, posting a 1.66 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 67.2 innings of work against league opponents; she is 11-6 with a 2.18 ERA and 68 Ks overall. Bethany Hines has also had a successful year, going 10-5 with a 2.51 ERA and 86 strikeouts on the season.

Across the Diamond:
Eastern New Mexico is 16-23 overall this season and 8-13 in Lone Star Conference contests. They enter play on the heels of a doubleheader sweep of Rogers State on Wednesday. ENMU is batting .268 on the season with 186 runs scored and 41 homers, while posting a 6.26 team ERA with 1332 total strikeouts in the circle.

Individually, Erikka Burke is top-10 in the LSC with a .423 batting average. She is also currently ranked in the top-10 in the league in slugging percentage, on base percentage, triples, and home runs, in which she has 13. Jennifer McElroy is the only other Greyhound batting over .300, hitting .370 with 12 doubles and 27 RBI. Leslie Reyes has the lowest ERA on the team at 5.32 with 52 strikeouts and 58 walks in 97.1 innings of work. Hanna Gary has pitched in 75 innings with 41 strikeouts, while Kimberly Herron and Kiana Zerr have both recorded over 30 innings of work.

Up Next:
Cameron will take on Central Oklahoma on Tuesday, April 10, in a non-conference doubleheader to start the week and then will travel to Canyon, Texas to take on No. 13 West Texas A&M in a three game league series.
