Softball visits UCO for midweek DH

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University softball team will visit Central Oklahoma for a non-conference  doubleheader, Tuesday, April 9, starting at 2 p.m.

The Aggies, who are 25-11, enter their final non-Lone Star Conference contests on a six game win streak, sweeping Eastern New Mexico in a three game set this past weekend.

CU opened the series with an 8-0 win in game one and then followed that up with a 6-2 in the second game. After being Saturday's game was postponed due to weather, the Black and Gold came back on Sunday and won 6-4 in the finale.

Cameron is batting .285 with 191 runs scored and 35 home runs on the season. Leading CU at the plate is senior Annie Combs, who is hitting .337 with 28 RBI. She, Brenna Busby (.336), and Kaitlyn Alvarado (.333) are the lone Aggies batting over .300. B. Busby leads CU and is top-10 in the LSC with nine homers, 36 runs scored, and 16 stolen bases.

In the circle, Cameron has a team ERA of 2.31 with 182 strikeouts in 245.1 total innings. Rylee Willmon and Bethany Hines both have 12 wins this year, as Willmon has a team best 2.25 ERA with with 75 strikeouts in 121.1 innings, while Hines has a 2.26 ERA with 101 Ks in 111.1 innings of work.

Central Oklahoma is 23-14 on the season and have not played since March 31, when they swept a double-dip against Lincoln. Their offense is one of the best in the nation, as they are hitting .339 as a team with 211 runs scored. UCO's team ERA is just shy of 4.00 at 3.96 with 127 total strikeouts in 235.1 innings pitched.

Individually, seven Broncho hitters are batting over .320, while two are hitting over .400. Carrie Abrams is hitting a team best .419 with 52 hits, while JoBi Heath is batting .416 with six homers and 35 RBI. Jayden Chestnut leads UCO in the circle with a 12-3 record, a 2.43 ERA and 80 strikeouts. , while Lauren Gibson is 9-5 in 101.2 innings.

After this mid-week doubleheader, Cameron will travel to Canyon, Texas for a three game conference series against No. 13 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs.
