Cameron hits the road to face UCO

LAWTON, Okla. -- In their final road game before their home opener next Wednesday, the Aggie women's basketball team visits in-state rival Central Oklahoma on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Starting 5: 
1. The Aggies are 1-3 on the young season after suffering a pair of losses last weekend in Kansas against Nebraska-Kearney and No. 7 Fort Hays State.
2. Senior Amaka Nwakamma had a career-high 25 points in the six-point loss to the Lopers, going 8-14 from the field and 8-10 from the foul line; she is averaging 10.8 points per game on the year. 
3. Maighan Hedge has scored in double-figures in three of CU's four contests this season, including 15 and 11 point outings this past weekend; the sophomore ranks sixth in the Lone Star Conference with 15.3 points per contest. 
4. Central Oklahoma has started the season with a 3-1 record, beating Mary, Northwestern State, and Lone Star Conference member UAFS by an average of 24.0 points per game; their one loss came against Southern Nazarene las Saturday. 
5. Freshman Jaci Littell leads the Bronchos with 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting over 48 percent from the floor and 47 percent from three-point range. 

Last time out: 
Last weekend, the Aggies opened up their trip to Kansas with a 79-73 loss to UNK. Last Friday's game was one of the closes of the season for CU, as they trailed by just two entering the final quarter after outscoring their opponent 22-20 in the third. They shot 40.3 percent from the floor and went 8-17 from three while going 15-21 from the charity stripe. Nwakmma led the way with her career-high 25 points while Hedge chipped in 15 points and Kami Porter added 11. 

Cameron's outing against the seventh ranked Tigers was not as close, as CU shot just 29 percent and turned the ball over 22 times in the 89-47 loss. Hedge was the only Aggie in double-figures with 11 points, while Porter and Nwakamma each had eight points in the loss. 

About the Aggies: 
Now 1-3 on the season, the Aggies have two more non-conference contests before the start of league play. Through four games, CU is averaged 61.3 points and shooting just 35.8 percent from the floor and 28 percent from three. Defensively, they give up an average of 80.3 points and the opposition is hitting on 44.2 percent of their shots from the field. Opponents are also making 24.0 free throws per game against CU while the Black and Gold averages 14.5 foul shots per outing. Cameron trails in the battle on the glass by just 2.5 rebounds, and defensively, they averaged 6.8 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. 

Hedge leads CU with 15.3 points per game, while shooting just over 35 percent from the floor and 85 percent from the charity stripe. Porter is second on the squad with a scoring average of 11.5 while leading CU with 6.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. Nwakamma averages 10.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game as the third Aggie scoring in double-figures. 

Scouting the Bronchos: 
In their four games, UCO has averaged 81.0 points per game and is shooting over 42 percent from the field and 34 percent from three. They also averaged 12.8 free throws per game and are shooting from the line at a 68.9 percent clip. The Bronchos have a rebounding margin of +3.7 and averaged 17.3 assists compared to 16.3 turnovers per outing. They also force their opponents into turning the ball over 22.5 times a game with 12.8 of those coming off UCO steals. Defensively, they block 2.3 shots per game while limiting the opposition to 64.3 percent from the floor on 35.7 percent shooting  from the field. 

Through her first four collegiate games, Jaci Littell is averaged 13.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per outing. The 5-10 guard from Stillwater, Okla. is shooting almost 49 percent from the field and has gone 10-21 from the perimeter. Micayla Haynes is averaged 11.5 points and a team-high 3.3 assists per game, while Brooke Rayner scores 10.5 points per outing. Additionally, 6-3 forward Kelsey Johnson grabs a team-high 9.0 rebounds per game with 13 against SNU, while Shatoya Bryson averages 3.5 steals per game with a pair of five steal games against NWOSU and UAFS. 

Who has next:
The Aggies have their home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 27, against No. 20 Southwestern Oklahoma State, the runner-up of last season's NCAA Championship. They then begin Lone Star Conference play with back-to-back road Saturday games against Western New Mexico on Dec. 7 and UT Permian Basin on Dec. 14.
