LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron softball team looks for their first Lone Star Conference series win of the season this weekend as they visit MSU Texas for a three game series Friday and Saturday.

About the Aggies:
In Cameron's home and conference opening weekend, the Black and Gold went 1-2 against now No. 8 Tarleton State, but very easily could have gone 3-0. In the first two games of the series, one bad inning plagued the Aggies in an 8-4 and 6-2 loss. CU bounced back in the finale to win 8-0 in six innings behind a one-hit gem from freshman
Breley Webb. That win improved their overall record to 9-5 this season.
As a team, the Aggies are hitting .296 with 77 runs scored and 29 extra-base hits. Freshman
Khmari Edwards leads the way with a .395 batting average and 11 RBI, and is tied with Webb for a team-leading 15 hits.
Brenna Busby is batting .341 with 14 hits, 14 runs scored, and nine RBI. Edwards, B. Busby, and
Raley Long are a combined 16-16 on the base paths, while CU as a whole is 23-30 in stolen base attempts in 2019.
In the circle, Cameron has a combined ERA of 2.53 with 62 strikeouts in 94 innings pitched. Webb has a team low 1.40 ERA with 12 K's in 15 innings in the circle, while
Bethany Hines leads the team with 24 strikeouts in 34 innings. Additionally,
Turner Whorton is 2-1 with a 1.44 ERA and
Rylee Willmon is 3-1 with a 2.90 ERA.
Scouting the Mustangs:
MSU Texas enters the matchup with Cameron coming off a three straight losses to No. 5 Texas A&M-Commerce. MSU was shutout in all three contests, with the last two games of the series ending in run-rule fashion. They are now 7-5 on the season and are 2-0 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
The Mustangs are hitting .282 with 58 runs scored and 29 extra-base hits, 17 of those are homeruns. Lauren Lindgren owns a team leading batting average of .432 with five runs scored and 10 RBI, while both Misty Muniz (.391) and Kelsey Eropkin (.351) are the only other two players hitting over .300.
MSU has a team ERA of 4.59 with 62 K's in 71.2 innings in the circle. Abbie Lancaster has been their most effective pitcher, posting a 4-1 record with a 1.83 ERA in 34.1 innings of work, while Muniz, leads the squad with 33 K's in 29.1 innings pitched.
On Deck:
Cameron will have a full slate of non-conference action next week, as they visit Southwestern Oklahoma State for a doubleheader on Tuesday, Feb. 26, before competing in the Missouri Southern TMZ Tournament next weekend, March 2-3. In Missouri, CU will face off against Nebraska-Kearney, Northwest Missouri State, Northeastern State, and Missouri Southern State.
