Cameron Spring Break Preview

LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron Athletics has a full slate of spring sport action this week, as CU softball, tennis, and baseball are all competing while the rest of campus is on Spring Break. 

Aggie Softball:
The Cameron softball team will open up the week with a non-conference doubleheader against Northwestern Oklahoma State beginning at 4 p.m. They will then host the No. 8 ranked West Texas A&M Lady Buffs for a three game series next weekend, March 22-23.

Cameron is coming off their first Lone Star Conference sweep, taking down Eastern New Mexico in three games. They totaled 24 runs and had six homers against the Greyhounds, led by Callie Busby's seven hits, five RBI, and two homers. CU is now 17-10 overall this season and 6-6 in league play.

Northwestern Oklahoma enters the doubleheader at CU with a 3-17 overall record and on a three game losing skid. The eighth ranked Lady Buffs enter the weekend series coming off a 2-1 series win against No. 15 Texas A&M-Commerce. They will host Colorado State-Pueblo on Tuesday before coming to Lawton.

Aggie Tennis:
Cameron men and women's tennis teams will begin LSC play by visiting UT Permian Basin on Monday, March 18, at 10 a.m. and then Western New Mexico on Wednesday, March 20, at 11 a.m. (CT). The Aggies will then return home on Saturday for a pair of matches against Northwest Missouri State beginning at 11 a.m.

The Aggie tennis teams are coming off very different weekends. The CU men went 2-0 against top-10 opponents beating both No. 4 West Florida and No. 9 Indianapolis by a score of 4-1. They are now 10-3 on the season. On the other side of things, CU's women went 0-2 against the same opponents, losing to No. 8 West Florida 4-2 and No. 10 Indianapolis 4-0, dropping the Aggies to 3-8 on the season.

UTPB's men enter the week with an 11-5 record, while the women are 5-10. Both Mustang teams currently have losing records with the men going 4-8 and the women at 6-7. The Bearcats have a few more matches before coming to Lawton, but the men are 4-3 and the women are 7-2.

Aggie Baseball:
Cameron's baseball team will be on the road for the second straight weekend, as they visit Tarleton State for a four game series and the official start of the conference season. Game one will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 22, and then the two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 23, which is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. The series finale will be on Sunday, March 24, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. as well.

The CU baseball team just lost all four games of their series at No. 6 West Texas A&M. After struggling at the plate the first three games of the weekend, the Black and Gold exploded for 10 runs in the series finale, but still lost by two runs. Cameron almost doubled their season home run total with four in Sunday's game and now have 10 on the season. Briton Schiewe went 4-5 with two runs scored and three RBI in the four game series against WT.

Tarleton State will enter their series against the Aggies with a 10-16 record this season and are coming off a 2-2 series split at UTPB this past weekend. The Texans are hitting .271 as a team with 131 runs scored, but also have a team ERA of over 7.00 with 184 combined strikeouts.
