LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron men's and women's tennis teams prepare for a weekend full of action as they face Colorado State-Pueblo and Colorado Mesa in Wichita Falls on Friday before hosting Metro State on Saturday.
The No. 24 Aggies will start their weekend, Friday at the MSU Texas Tennis Center by playing the Thunderwolves at 9 a.m. and then CMU at 3 p.m. Both teams will then head back home for Saturday's match against the Roadrunners, which will begin at 2 p.m. at the Streich-Henry Family Tennis Complex.
On the men's side, the Aggies enter the three-match set with a 5-3 record and a two match win streak, beating Cowley County CC 7-0 and St. Mary's 4-1 their last time out. CU's top doubles team of
Julen Gutierrez and
Vinicius Santos are 4-4 on the season, while
Pierre Marion has posted a 5-1 record to start the season in singles and
Mritunjay Badola has gone 5-3.
CSU-Pueblo's men have started the season just 2-8, while the Mavericks are 2-5 in 2019 and Metro State is just 2-4 through the first month of play.
Cameron's women have not had a strong start to the spring, going 0-6 with three of those losses coming by a score of 4-3.
Sarah Frendo and
Alisa Savina have been the most successful doubles pairing for CU, going 2-2 at the No. 2 spot. Frendo is tied with
Pilar Jaurena and
Melany Opolz for a team-leading two wins this spring.
The women's tennis team from CSU-Pueblo is also winless to start the season, going 0-10 with seven losses this spring. Colorado Mesa's women are 3-6 on the season and the Roadrunners are 5-4.
Following the three-match set will be a tough trip to San Antonio next week, March 15-16, where both Aggie teams will take on West Florida and Indianapolis.
