Softball closes out regular season at No. 8 Texas A&M-Commerce

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron softball team will close out their regular season with a three-game set at No. 8 Texas A&M-Commerce this weekend, April 26-27.

In the Rankings:
The Aggies are receiving votes for the first time this season in the NFCA Top-25 poll. There are four Lone Star Conference teams in the top-25, including three in the top-8. CU is also ranked No. 5 in the South Central Regional Rankings. Six conference schools are represented in the regional rankings, with five in the top-5 and six in the top-7.

About the Aggies:
Cameron is on a six game win streak after sweeping their last home series against UT Permian Basin. In game one of the series, Freshman Breley Webb three a complete-game shutout with eight strikeouts, pacing the CU arms to only give up three runs the whole week. Webb leads CU with a 2.16 ERA and is 8-1 with 68 K's in 71.1 innings in the circle.

With her two homers and two stolen bases in last week's series, Brenna Busby is now just four homers and three stolen bases away from tying the program's career mark; she also needs five dingers to tie the single season mark of 21. The junior shortstop is hitting a career-high .387 with 16 homers, 54 runs scored, and 46 RBI on the season.

Additionally, the Black and Gold has five more hitters batting over .300 (min of two PA/G), led by freshman Khmari Edwards with a .410 average. Edwards has driven in 39 runs, scored 39 times, and is 23-23 in stolen base attempts. She, Callie Busby, and Breley Webb all have eight homers this season.  

Webb is not the only strong arm in the CU rotation. Bethany Hines leads the team with 13 wins and 82 strikeouts and owns a 2.59 ERA in 100 innings in the circle. The junior from Washington, Okla. needs just four more wins to tie the program's career win mark. Rylee Willmon owns an ERA of 2.75 and is 9-4 on the season with 46 K's in 86.2 innings of work.

Scouting the Lions:
Texas A&M-Commerce enters the weekend ranked No. 8 in Division II and tied for first in the LSC standings. They are 35-10 on the year with a 21-6 league record. TAMUC also owns one of the highest scoring offenses in the nation, scoring 7.44 runs per game and hitting 1.64 homers per contest, which is second in DII to only West Texas A&M.

Leading the offensive charge is senior infielder Bri Sims. Sims is hitting .339 with 13 home runs and 44 RBI this season. Jodie Hill is second on the team with 12 long balls and 38 runs driven in, while Madison Schaefer has a qualifying team-high batting average of .347. As a team, the Lions are hitting .307 with 74 homers and 75 stolen bases.

Commerce also has a strong pitching staff, posting a combined 2.83 ERA with 203 strikeouts in 279.2 innings. They are led by Emily Otto, who is 23-6 on the season with a 1.99 ERA and 141 punchouts in her 169 innings of work. Katie Dean is second on the team with a 3.41 ERA, and is 10-1 with 48 K's in 74 innings.

On Deck:
Next up for the Aggies will be the Lone Star Conference Tournament, which will be held in either Commerce, Canyon, or Kingsville, Texas, depending on how the games this weekend turn out. Cameron is currently fourth in the LSC standings, one game ahead of Tarleton State.
