LAWTON, Okla. – Postseason softball has begun, and the Cameron University softball team will begin the second season by taking on Tarleton State in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament on Friday, May 3, at 1:30 p.m.

The Aggies and TexAnns finished the regular season tied for fourth in the conference standings with a 20-10 league record. However, TSU won two games out of three during their series earlier this season to own the tiebreaker over CU. This is the second straight year that the two teams have faced off in the opening round of the tournament.
Both teams are being noticed at the national and regional levels. Tarleton is ranked No. 19 in the NFCA poll, while CU is on the outside looking in with six votes. In the South Central Regional Poll, TSU is ranked third and the Aggies are ranked fifth.
Cameron finished the season losing two out of three at No. 8 Texas A&M-Commerce. Their one win came in the middle game of the series, as they took down the Lions 5-1 behind pitching gem from
Bethany Hines and a pair of homers by
Brenna Busby. Hines went seven innings, giving up just one run on six hits with six strikeouts. B. Busby finished the game going 2-2 with three runs scored and three RBI.
In the regular season, the Aggies hit .317 with 281 runs scored and 122 extra-base hits, 54 of which were homers. Freshman
Khmari Edwards leads the way with a .411 batting average and has scored 39 runs, hit 11 doubles and eight homers, and driven in 40 runs while going 24-24 on the base paths.
B. Busby is batting .389 with a team-high 58 runs scored, 18 homers, and 50 RBI. She ranks in the top-10 in the LSC in multiple categories including leading the league in homers and runs scored. B. Busby is just two homers shy of tying the CU career record and three away from tying the single-season mark.
Not to be out-shined by her sister,
Callie Busby is also having a career-year, batting .369 with 31 runs scored, 10 doubles, eight homers, and 39 RBI. She has started 152 straight games at catcher for the Black and Gold and has thrown out 10 runners trying to steal this season.
Hines, who is 14-5 with a 2.49 ERA this season, leads Cameron's pitching staff with 90 strikeouts in 107 innings in the circle. Additionally, freshman
Breley Webb, who is also batting .341 with 27 runs scored, eight homers, and 33 RBI, owns a 2.81 ERA and is 8-2 with 71 strikeouts in 74.2 innings of work.
During the first week of LSC play this season, Tarleton State took two out of three in Lawton, winning 8-4 and 6-2 before falling in the series finale 8-0. They finished the season with an overall record of 38-12 after winning two out of three at West Texas A&M during their final regular season series.
The TexAnns hit .314 during the regular season with 328 runs scored and 141 extra-base hits, including 69 long balls. Tanna Huie leads the squad with a .408 average, while scoring 44 runs, hitting 13 homers, and driving in 41. Georgia Cappell has had a strong season, batting .404 with 55 runs scored, 18 homers, and 67 RBI. Three others are hitting over .300, including Amanda Conner and Karli Herron, who have combined for an additional 25 home runs.
Tarleton enters the postseason with a 2.40 ERA and 315 combined strikeouts in 321 innings of work. Jordan Withrow is their workhorse, posting a 2.00 ERA with 202 K's in 164.1 innings. She is 20-4 with two saves, while Tristan Bridges is 9-6 with 78 strikeouts and a 3.25 ERA in 84 innings.
If the Aggies get past TSU in the quarterfinal, they will go on to face the host team Texas A&M-Kingsville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
