Aggies open Thanksgiving week with duo of in-state battles

LAWTON – The Cameron women's basketball team is back home for "Feast Week" as they host Central Oklahoma on Tuesday and Southwestern Oklahoma State on Wednesday.

After getting their first taste of action away from the Aggie Gym this past weekend, the Aggies return to play in front of the home crowd for three games during Thanksgiving week. First up is a date with UCO on Nov. 23 at 5:30 p.m. and then a battle against SWOSU on Nov. 24 at 3 p.m. The week wraps up on Saturday, Nov. 27, at 2 p.m. against Central Oklahoma.

STARTING 5
1. After their fourth win by 20 or more points against Newman on Friday, the Aggies suffered their first loss of the year, falling to No. 4 Fort Hays State by six on the road, despite out-shooting the Tigers and having four players score in double-figures.
2. Fourth-year guard Maighan Hedge continues to lead the Lone Star Conference and is ranked sixth in all of Division II with her 23.8 points per game after scoring 20 points against the Jets and 25 against FHSU this past weekend.
3. As a team, Cameron ranks in the top-20 in the nation in multiple categories, including steals, three-point percentage, turnover margin, free throws made, as well as leading the country with their 61 three-point field goals made to this point in the season.
4. In their 16th year under Guy Hardaker, the Bronchos have started the season 3-2, and like the Aggies rank ninth in Division II with their 60 steals this season and are 10th with 88 total assists, led by Avery Allen's 4.0 helpers per game.
5. Under Cameron grad Kelsi Musick, the Bullsdogs started out the year ranked in the top-25 in both WBCA and D2SIDA polls, and one of their two loses this season was against No. 2/No. 3 Drury and the other was against West Texas A&M.

ABOUT THE AGGIES
Cameron was just a few plays away from being 5-0 with a win over a top-5 ranked opponent on their resume, but they were unable to close out last weekend's upset over Fort Hays State to move to 4-1 to start the year. Despite the loss, the Aggies are one of the best offensive teams in the nation, scoring 87.4 points per game and shooting 45.6 percent from the floor and 40 percent from three, making 12.2 triples per outing. They are out-scoring their opponents by 20.4 points and their perimeter defense holds opponents to a .174 clip from long-range. Cameron turns their opponents over 24.2 times per outing with 12.8 coming on steals, resulting in an average of 27 points off turnovers. The team's one struggle has been down low, where they are being out-rebounded by an average of 13 boards per game.

Hedge is one of four Aggies averaging over 10 points through the first five games of the year. The Melbourne, Australia native is also shooting over 55 percent from the field, 54 percent from three, and 84 percent from the foul line while averaging 2.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 2.2 steals. Stephanie Peterson is off to a great start as well, averaging 14.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.2 steals per game while shooting over 55 percent from the floor as well. Additionally, newcomer Korie Allensworth has score over 10 points in all five games, averaging 13.8 this season and Katie King is averaging 12.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 3.0 steals for the Black and Gold.

SCOUTING THE BRONCHOS
Central Oklahoma enters the week with a 3-2 record with their only other game against the LSC so far this fall coming in a 78-58 win over UAFS last weekend. They are averaging 70.6 points per game and shooting just over 41 percent from the field. UCO is not a strong three-point shooting team (22.3 percent from long range) but they are good at pressuring the ball, forcing 22 turnovers per game with an average of 12 steals. They also excel on the glass, out-rebounding teams by five boards this season.

Senior forward Kelsey Johnson is the Bronchos' go to player down-low, averaging a double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game. Sophomore forward Alayzha Knapp is second on the team with 9.6 points per outing, while Brooke Rayner averages a team-high 2.4 steals.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
SWOSU is also 3-2 to open the season with a pair of tough losses on their resume to this point in the year. Averaging 76.4 points per game, just over four more than their opposition, the Bulldogs are another good three-point shooting team, hitting 10 per game at a 41.7 percent clip.

Sophomore Makyra Tramble leads SWOSU with 22.2 points per game to go along with 6.4 rebounds and a team-high 17 assists and 14 steals. Karly Gore, who just recently was named the Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, is averaging 12.2 points and five rebounds per game for the Bulldogs while shooting over 45 percent from the field. Lauren Ramey adds 12.6 points per outing and has made 13 shots from long range through the team's first five games.

WHO HAS NEXT
After a quick break for Thanksgiving on Thursday and Friday, the Aggies "Feast Week" continues on Saturday, Nov. 27, when they host Oklahoma Baptist for their second to last home game of the calendar year.
