Aggie women alter schedule, face top-5 ranked Lady Chaps Wednesday

LAWTON – After a pair of schedule changes, the Cameron women's basketball slate this week features only a trip to No. 1/No. 4 Lubbock Christian on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

The Aggies entered the week scheduled to play Eastern New Mexico on Tuesday and Lubbock Christian on Thursday. The game at ENMU has been postponed to Jan. 31 and the game against the Lady Chaps at the Rip Griffin Center has been moved up to be played one day earlier than originally scheduled.

STARTING 5
1. Cameron snapped a four-game losing skid with a 25-point win over Western New Mexico last time out, forcing the Mustangs into 35 team turnovers and scoring 30 points off of those takeaways.
2. With 21 points against WNMU, Maighan Hedge has scored over 20 points in six of Cameron's nine games this season, is less than 100 points away from breaking the program's career scoring mark and is third nationally with her 22.9 points per game.
3. The Aggies own the 13th best scoring offense in the nation (80.4 ppg) and there 10.9 three-point field goals made per game is the best in all of Division II in that category.
4. Steve Gomez and his Lady Chaps, the defending Division II National Champions, find themselves right there at the top of the pack again, ranking in the top-10 of both women's polls, led by LSC Preseason Player Allie Schulte.
5. This week marks the last slate of games that Lone Star Conference teams will play each other in non-league standings counting games. The first official week of conference play begins on Jan. 31 for most teams in the league.

ABOUT THE AGGIES
Cameron jumped above .500 with their win over the Mustangs two weeks ago. Even with the 1-4 record over the last five games, they are still out-scoring opponents by an average of 10.4 points, dropping 80.4 and shooting over 41 percent on the offensive end of the floor. The Aggies are a great perimeter team, knocking down an average of 10.9 threes at a 35 percent clip while holding opponents to just five triples at a 29 percent efficiency. Cameron's turnover margin sits at +8.2 with 12.1 steals per game, but they trail in the rebounding battle by an average of 10 boards per outing. Hedge leads the squad in shooting, scoring, and playmaking (4.4 apg), while Stephanie Peterson chips in 13.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.8 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. Korie Allensworth and Katie King are both also averaging around 10 points for CU.

SCOUTING THE LADY CHAPS
Lubbock Christian is off to a 10-1 start with their only loss coming against Colorado State-Pueblo, who is currently ranked, back in early November. They are coming off a pair of wins over West Texas A&M and Western New Mexico where they held both teams to under 50 points. LCU averages 64.4 points on offense and holds teams to 51 on the other side of the floor. They shoot 42 percent from the floor and make 7.3 triples per game at a 34 percent clip. The Lady Chap defense holds teams to under 36 percent shooting from the floor and 25 percent from three. Ashton Duncan leads the way with 12.8 points per game, while Schulte adds 12.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.4 steals per outing. Juliana Robertson leads LCU with 6.8 rebounds per game to go along with a 5.9 scoring average.

LAST TIME AGAINST LCU
Lubbock Christian and Cameron were very familiar with each other after last season's end, playing each other twice in the span of two postseason tournaments. The first was an 84-69 win by LCU in the semifinals of the LSC Tournament and the second was a 96-66 win in the NCAA South Central Regional. In the latter, CU was just 4-19 from three while the Lady Chaps went to the foul line 38 times, knocking down 31 of their attempts. This season's LSC Preseason Player of the Year Allie Schulte had 21 points on nine shots while Hedge led CU with 17 points, but turned the ball over seven times, something the team did 23 times in the loss.

WHO HAS NEXT
After the Division II Holiday break, Cameron officially begins Lone Star Conference play when they visit Oklahoma Christian on New Year's Eve at 5:30 p.m. and then UAFS on Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. The Aggies' next home game is Jan. 6 against UT Tyler.
