LAWTON – The Cameron women's basketball team begins Lone Star Conference play this weekend as they visit Oklahoma Christian on Friday and UAFS on Sunday.
After over two weeks off from competition, the Aggies officially start league play this weekend as they are set for a New Year's Eve battle with the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. in Oklahoma City, Okla. before heading to Arkansas a few days later to kick of 2022 against the Lady Lions at 2 p.m.
STARTING 5
1. Of their five losses this season, three have come against top-25 ranked opponents, including their loss to No. 1 Lubbock Christian last time out.

Maighan Hedge is just 83 points away from tying the Cameron career scoring record of 1,602 set by Jo Tahsuda; the fourth-year guard has scored over 10 points per game in all 10 games this season and ranks first in the Lone Star Conference and third nationally in scoring.
3. Oklahoma Christian has gotten off to a rough start in the 37th season under head coach Stephanie Findley, going 0-8 to start the season with a scoring margin of negative 15.0 points per game.
4. Second-year player Brooklyn Bain is averaging a double-double for OC with 15.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, which is second in the conference rebounding rankings.
5. With a 2-7 record in the first season under head coach Ryan McAdams, UAFS is a solid rebounding team, especially on the offensive glass (16.4 orpg), led by Mar'Shaila Lollie's 10.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
ABOUT THE AGGIES
Playing one of the toughest early season schedules in the conference, Cameron has opened the 2021-22 season with an even .500 record (5-5). They remain one of the top offenses in the country, averaging 78.5 points per game while shooting 41 percent from the floor and making 10.5 three-pointers per game at a 34.5 percent clip. Defensively, they force over 21 turnovers per game with 11.5 of those coming on steals while holding teams to under 30 percent shooting from three-point range. The Aggies' struggle this season has come on the boards, where they give up an average of 9.7 more rebounds to their opposition than they pull down. Hedge is making a case for conference Player of the Year honors, averaging 21.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting nearly 53 percent from the field.
Stephanie Peterson adds 12.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.7 steals, and one block while
Katie King and
Korie Allensworth are both averaging 9.7 points for the Aggies.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Still searching for their first win, the Eagles are averaging just 63.8 points per game and shooting 36 percent from the field. They are giving up nearly 79 points to their opposition with a 45.2 percent clip from the field. They also turn the ball over 19.4 times per game, resulting in an average of 23.6 points for their opponents. Bain has led the way both in scoring and rebounding, while fellow freshman Kate Bradley averages 14.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists for Oklahoma Christian.
SCOUTING THE LADY LIONS
UAFS's two wins this season have come against Arkansas-Monticello and Arkansas Baptist, and four of their losses have come against LSC teams, including a loss to Texas Woman's where they Lady Lions scored just 38 points. They are scoring on average just over 60 points per game and shooting 35 percent from the field and just 25.5 percent from three on the season. Teams are scoring almost 73 points on UAFS and shooting 45.5 percent from the field. Paige Elston leads the team with 11.1 points per game to go along with 5.1 rebounds on average. Lollie leads the team in rebounding and is also shooting over 56 percent from the floor.

The Aggies play their first two home games of 2022 in the Aggie Gym next week when they host UT Tyler on Thursday, Jan. 6, and then Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday, Jan. 8.
