CLAREMORE - The 7-1 Aggie softball team rides a six-game winning streak into a big non-conference matchup with No. 16 Rogers State on Thursday afternoon.
Cameron is taking on a 16th ranked Rodgers State softball team that has yet to make their season debut. A year ago, RSU finished 21-8 in the shortened season and were 4-2 at home. Dating back to last year, the Hillcats are on a two-game winning streak. All-time, CU is 7-1 against Rodgers State, however, the Aggies fell in the last meeting between these two squads a year ago, 3-2. After going up 2-0 in that game, the Black and Gold was shutout the rest of the way after Andrea Morales settled in to seven innings of two-run ball while allowing just three hits and punching out four Aggies.
In their lone true-road game, the Aggies fell to UCO in Edmond, Okla. in a 10-inning thriller. CU will look to capture their first road win of 2021, a category that the team finished above .500 in a year ago.
This season, the Aggies are led by
Maci McMurtrey who has turned in a jaw-dropping .500 batting average across her first 12 at-bats of the year. McMurtrey has crossed the plate four times and swiped a bag so far this year.
Madyson Marvulli has been a driving force in the Black and Gold's offense, plating a team-high eight runs to go along with her .474-average.
The CU offense has been a hitting machine so far this season, totaling 88 hits as a team, with three players tied for the team-high with 11 hits.
Brenna Busby and
Callie Christensen continue to be a dynamic duo in the CU lineup for head coach
Kayla Adams. Each player has 11-hits, while Busby has come around to score a team-high 13 times. Combined, the two have seven stolen bases and have only been caught once. Christenson, while scoring the second-most runs on the team (7) is also responsible for driving in 6 runs so far this season.
Mikayla Richmond is the third Aggie with 11-hits so far this year, but she has made
Kayla Adams look masterful in the process. Richmond is tied for the team-high in steals, with six bags on seven attempts.
In the circle, CU is led by
Bethany Hines who has tossed 30.1-innings to the tune of a 2.08-ERA. Hines has punched out a team-high 26 batters while earning a save out of the Black and Gold bullpen to go along with her three wins this year.
Breley Webb is tied for the team-low in WHIP with Hines. Webb has been a reliable number two starter for Adams' squad, pitching 13.1-innings with a 2.10 ERA to show for it. Webb is also a factor at the plate. Already this year,
Breley Webb has a double and three RBIs.
The single-day, non-conference doubleheader series will take place Thursday, Feb. 25, in Claremore, Okla. with the first pitch set for 2 p.m.
