LAWTON – For just the second time in their long history, the Cameron women's basketball team and the Midwestern State Mustangs will meet in the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament as the Aggies host the first round matchup on Tuesday, March 2, at 5 p.m.

STARTING 5:
1. Cameron's win over Texas Woman's and Midwestern State's loss to UT Permian Basin set up the first round matchup in the Aggie Gym as CU narrowly edged out MSU for the four seed in the Lone Star Conference points ratings.
2. The Aggies have not won a Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament game since 2002 and are 0-1 all-time against MSU in postseason meetings.
3. Junior Maighan Hedge led the Aggies in scoring in six of the eight games played in February, averaging 17.5 points during the month; she finished the regular season with the league's second best scoring average at 16.9.
4. In all but one game last month, CU forced their opponent into over 20 turnovers, averaging 14.3 steals per game during the eight-game span.
5. While there have been no regional rankings to this point in the season, both the Aggies and Mustangs were mentioned in last week's list of eight teams being considered for the NCAA Division II South Central Regional which will be made up of teams from the LSC and Great American Conference this season.

ABOUT THE AGGIES:
When you look at the recent success the Cameron women's basketball team has had, two things standout: defensive pressure and dominance on the perimeter. CU ranks in the top-25 in all of NCAA Division II in turnovers forced (19th), turnover margin (14th), steals per game (24th), three point field-goals made per game (20th), and three-point field goal defense (12th). Cameron has made over nine triples in a game eight times and recorded over 10 steals in 10 games this year. Both efforts are led by the junior Hedge, who averages 2.4 three's and 2.0 steals to go along with 16.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per outing. She is one of six Aggies recording at least one steal per game and one of six with at least 13 made three's this season. Junior forward Whitney Outon has stepped up her game down the stretch, averaging 11.6 points 2.0 steals overs CU's last five games. Additionally, Stephanie Peterson averages 10.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.4 steals, while three other Aggies average over five points per game for the Black and Gold.

CAMERON IN THE LSC TOURNAMENT:
In their 14 previous appearances in the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament, the Aggies are just 1-14 with their lone win coming back in 2002. That win was followed with their one and only meeting with the Mustangs in the postseason, which ended in a 68-59 semifinal loss. Cameron has qualified for the league tournament eight times in the last 10 seasons, missing out in 2019 and 2013.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS:
Midwestern State's 2020-21 resume is very similar to the Aggies. MSU had a dominant January, winning six of the eight games, helping them finish the regular season with an 11-6 overall and conference mark. Both teams average just over 68 points per game, with MSU getting most of their scores in the paint. Defensively, the Mustangs rack up 4.1 blocks per game while allowing a .385 opponents field goal percentage. They hold a rebounding margin of 3.8, but turn the ball over 19.1 times per game, 2.7 more times than their opponent. Senior Morgan Lenahan leads the way with 14.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per contest while shooting 42 percent from the field and 39.5 from three-point range. Frances King averages 11.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.1 steals, while posts Hannah Reynolds and Mandy Withey are responsible for 2.7 blocks and 10.1 rebounds for MSU.

THE SERIES WITH MSU:
The Mustangs hold a 41-25 all-time series lead over the Aggies, who broke a four-game losing streak to their Red River rival with a win earlier this season. The previous two 2020-21 meetings came back in December to open both team's schedules and were completely different games. In the first game, Cameron shot just 35.4 percent from the field and was 2-16 from three-point range in a 78-71 loss. The Mustangs controlled the battle on the glass and went to the foul line 34 times, making 79.4 percent of their attempts. King led MSU with 23 points, while Haevyn Risley added a 10-point, 14-rebound double-double. Hedge had 23 points as well, with Outon adding 14 points and Peterson chipping in 10. Cameron was dominant in the second game, holding MSU under 30 percent shooting in a 75-52 win. Lenehan was the only Mustang player to score in double-figures (12), while four Aggies had over 12 points with Hedge and Kiara Lovings leading the way with 16 each. Cameron shot 46 percent from the field, 41 percent from three, and 87.5 percent from the charity stripe in their first win of the new season.

AGAINST THE BRACKET:
Including Midwestern State, the Aggies have faced off against four teams that make up the rest of the LSC Championship Tournament bracket (MSU, West Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Oklahoma Christian). This season, Cameron only swept one of those series and that was against the Lady Buffs, while the other three were split two-game series. The Aggies was set to face St. Mary's, the eight seed, but those games were postponed due to a winter storm with no makeup games fulfilled. The two remaining teams, Lubbock Christian, and Texas A&M International, were not on the Aggies' schedule for the 2020-21 season.
