Hedge claims third LSC Offensive Player of the Week honor

RICHARDSON, Texas – For the third time this season, Cameron's Maighan Hedge was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week after a two-game span where she averaged 27 points while also making program history.

A fourth-year guard from Melbourne, Australia, Hedge has led the conference in scoring for almost the whole season and her performance this week did not change her spot in the standings. Her 22.5 points per game is tops in the LSC and No. 2 in all of Division II, behind Ouachita Baptist's Aspen Thornton's 24.3 scoring average.

This week, Hedge scored 26 points with seven made three-pointers, nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a one-point win over UT Permian Basin to start the two-game span. After scoring 12 points in the opening half, Hedge's 18th point midway through the third quarter broke the Aggie women's basketball all-time scoring record of 1,602 points, previously held by Jo Tahsuda.

On Saturday in Cameron's 100-68 win over Angelo State to move to 5-0 in league play, Hedge poured in 28 points, going 12-19 from the field and 3-6 from long range. The sports and exercise science major added four rebounds and a pair of helpers in the winning effort.

Hedge now has 10 20-plus point outings this season and eight games with three or more made three-point field goals. She ranks in the top-20 of the nation in three-pointers made and field goals made. Hedge also recently broke the program's career assist record and is second on the CU all-time three-pointers made list behind former teammate Ava Battese.

Of the 20 weekly conference honors announced so far this season, Hedge has claimed three, Nov. 15, Jan. 3, and Jan. 24, tying LCU's Allie Schulte, who also has three this season; Dyani Robinson from Texas A&M-Commerce has two.

Hedge and the Aggies will look to keep their hot-streak going this week when they visit Texas Woman's on Thursday, Jan. 27, and Midwestern State on Saturday, Jan. 29. Both broadcasts can be found on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network.
