Aggies Fall to LCU Friday

Box Score LUBBOCK, Texas – The Cameron women's basketball closes out 2022 with a loss to the Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps inside the Rip Griffin Center Friday evening.

The Aggies drop to 6-6 overall, 3-3 in the Lone Star Conference, and 1-1 in the West Division. CU will head to Canyon, Texas, on New Year's Day to take on West Texas A&M at 1:00 pm.

Kiara Lovings led the Black-and-Gold with 10 points, Alannah Gillespie scored eight, Korie Allensworth and Alena Wilson added four points, Kailyn Lay and Karley Miller recorded three points, and Kloe Heidebrecht had two.

Wilson grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Miller hauled in five, Lay and LaKya Leslie added three boards, Allensworth, Heidebrecht, Hallie Horton, Katie King and Mikayla Peterson snagged two rebounds, and Gillespie had one.

Taliyah Johnson, King, and Wilson each dished out an assist.

Six Aggies swiped a steal in the game for CU, Allensworth, Gillespie, Johnson, Lay, King, and Peterson.

Cameron shot a season-worst 25 percent from the field and 18.8 percent from three-point range in the game.

The game opened with LCU jumping to a 9-0 run before the Aggies would get on the board. The seven-point gap would be the closest the game would be the rest of the night as the Lady Chaps would pull away to take a demanding 34-6 lead after the opening quarter.

The Lady Chaps would continue to build on their lead in the second quarter, stretching it to 54-14 at the half.

Cameron would score 12 points in the third quarter to Lubbock Christian's 15, going into the final stanza with the score at 69-26.

LCU would double up the Aggies in the fourth quarter with a 16-8 score, closing the game at 85-34.
