Cameron returns to OKC for five more games

LAWTON – After going 3-2 last weekend at the Edmond Festival, the Aggie softball team is back for more this weekend when they play five more games in the Oklahoma City metroplex. 
 
Cameron saw their season opening winning streak climb to nine games before suffering their first two losses of the season last Sunday against Rogers State and Central Oklahoma. Their five-game weekend this time around once again includes the now No. 14 ranked Hillcats as well as Arkansas Tech, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Northeastern State, and Southern Nazarene.
 
The 9-2 Aggies are batting .298 this season and rank in the top-20 of all of Division II with 90 hits, 66 runs scored, and 10 homers so far this season. Breley Webb has been raking for CU, hitting .500 with six runs scored and five RBI. Kylie French, who had three homers, and Haley Castle both have 11 RBI to lead the team while Khmari Edwards has scored a team-high 13 times. Mikaeyla Richmond's nine stolen bases is top-10 in the country. 
 
After a rough end to last week's schedule, Cameron's team ERA has increased to 4.12 with 61 combined strikeouts and a .289 opponents' batting average. Josie Swafford, who is also batting over .400, leads the Aggies with a 2.59 ERA and four wins with 21 K's in 24.1 innings in the circle. Jocelyn Bright is 3-0 on the year with 20 strikeouts in her 24.1 innings of work. 
 
Cameron's first opponent of the week is the 6-4 Arkansas Tech Golden Suns. Their resume features four losses to Lone Star Conference opponents this season, but they do have a 6-3 win over No. 8 Augustana as well. ATU is hitting .309 with 66 runs scored this season, led by Tymber Riley, who is hitting .536 with 12 runs scored and 10 RBI through 10 games. In the circle, the Suns own a 2.94 team ERA with Bailey Buffington striking out 18 batters in 15 innings of work with a 0.47 ERA. 
 
Southeastern Oklahoma State is 7-4 on the season with four of their losses coming against top-25 ranked opponents. They are hitting .296 with 48 runs scored this season with Cheyenne Mahy leading the way with a .438 average and nine RBI. Mahy also leads the way in the circle, posting a 1.27 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 33 innings of work. The Savage Storm has a combined team ERA of 2.90 with a .288 opponents' batting average. 
 
The Aggies have a rematch with the now 10-1 RSU Hillcats for their third game of the season. They are batting .297 and have scored 69 runs scored. Elexis Watson and Chelsea Spain are both hitting over .400 with Abbey Rogers totaling nine RBI so far this season. RSU has a strong pitching staff that has posted a 1.73 ERA with 83 strikeouts. Andrea Morales had seven strikeouts in the win over CU and has 55 on the season with a 1.14 ERA. 
 
Sitting at 5-3 on the new season, Northeastern State is batting .275 as a team with 40 runs scored and 12 home runs. Chloe Bohuslavicky leads the power surge with four of those long balls, while Alyssia Crick is batting .44 with seven runs scored and six RBI. The Riverhawks have a team ERA of 2.91 with workhorse Gail Young totaling 24 K's in 22.1 innings in the circle. 
 
Cameron faced Southern Nazarene to round out their trip to the Edmond Festival. The Crimson Storm have gone 1-8 to start the season with a .247 average and 28 runs scored. Liana Heshiki leads the team with a .400 average with Natalie Jones totaling six RBI with a .345 average. SNU has a staff ERA of 5.68 with Jennifer Romero-Ivarson striking out 23 batters in 26.2 innings of work. 
 
This weekend of the Edmond Festival is scheduled to be played across four venues with Cameron playing at three of those. The Aggies' first game is against ATU on Friday at 3 p.m. at Piedmont HS. Saturday, CU starts the day with SEOSU at 10:30 a.m. at Tom Heath Field on the campus of Oklahoma Christian. They then return to Piedmont HS at 5:15 p.m. for their rematch with RSU. Sunday, the Aggies play both of their games at Southern Nazarene, first at 10 a.m. against SNU and then at 2:30 p.m. against the Crimson Storm.
