LAWTON – The Cameron softball team finally makes their home debut on Wednesday when they host Southwestern Oklahoma State for a doubleheader at McMahon Field.
After weather changed the date of the twin-bill twice, the Aggies and Bulldogs are set for two non-conference battles in Lawton on the second day of March with game one starting at 1 p.m.
The two teams have already met once this season with Cameron winning 11-4 thanks to a 7-run fifth inning.
Haley Castle had a 3-3 performance with two RBI in the win while freshman catcher
Kaiden Boren reached base four times and drove in a pair of runs of her own. Maddie Rahon led the Bulldogs with three of their seven hits.
Jocelyn Bright earned the win, going 4.2 innings and giving up just one un-earned run.
Cameron enters their final non-conference games before Lone Star Conference play begins on Friday with a 10-6 record this season. At the plate, they are hitting .301 with 87 runs scored, with 40 extra-base hits, and 29 stolen bases.
Breley Webb has led the efforts, hitting .500 with five doubles and seven RBI; the fourth-year utility player is one of five Aggies batting over .300. Castle leads the team with four homers and 15 RBI while
Khmari Edwards has scored 18 runs and is a perfect 8-8 in stolen base attempts.
In the circle, the Aggies have a team ERA of 3.73 with 88 combined strikeouts and an opponents' batting average of .275.
Josie Swafford, who is also batting .396, has a CU-low 2.41 ERA with 25 K's in 32 innings. Bright leads the team with 35 strikeouts and a .251 average against her.
Southwestern is just 1-7 on the season with their lone loss coming in a 9-7 result against Missouri Southern on Feb. 12. They are hitting just .181 while averaging just two runs per game and 10 extra-base hits. Brenna Simmons has been the long bright spot for the lineup, hitting .455 with four runs scored and three RBI. The Bulldog staff has a team ERA of 6.65 with teams hitting .325 off them. Brianna Cryer has a team-best 13 K's in 19 innings of work.
Both games of the doubleheader with Southwestern Oklahoma State will be streamed via the Lone Star Conference Digital Network. For fans who want to attend in person, games at McMahon Field are free of charge for the 2022 season.
Following their non-conference games, the Aggies begin league play this weekend, hosting No. 6 Angelo State on Friday, March 4, for two games beginning at 3 p.m. They then welcome Lubbock Christian to Lawton on Sunday, March 6, for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
