LAWTON – The Cameron softball team has a pair of crucial Lone Star Conference doubleheaders this weekend as they hit the road to face No. 19 A&M-Commerce on Friday and No. 1 UT Tyler on Sunday.
After being off last week, the Aggies, who have won six in a row, begin their toughest stretch of the season this weekend as they have dates with three ranked opponents to close out the regular season. First up are twin bills against the top-20 ranked Lions and the unanimous No. 1 Patriots.
Cameron enters their final road trip of the schedule with a 25-17 overall record and a 13-11 league mark. They have won three straight series including 17-3 and 4-3 wins over UT Permian Basin on Senior Day at McMahon Field on April 10.
At the plate, the Black and Gold hits .311 with 5.4 runs scored per game and 111 extra-base hits including 51 home runs. Six players are hitting over .320 with
Breley Webb leading the way with a .417 average, 21 runs scored, and 24 RBI. Freshman standout
Kaiden Boren is second in the LSC in slugging (.853) and has 12 homers and a team-high 38 RBI after totaling 16 in four games two weeks ago. Lead-off hitter
Khmari Edwards leads the LSC with 49 runs scored and is 27-27 in stolen base attempts.
Webb and
Josie Swafford have been solid in the circle for Cameron. Webb has 11 wins and a 3.19 ERA in 101 innings while Swafford, who is hitting .370 as well with 21 RBI, leads the team with 99 strikeouts in 83.2 innings of work. The CU staff owns a 3.66 ERA and a .281 opponents' batting average.
After sweeping Henderson State in a doubleheader on Wednesday, the Lions are now at 35-11 on the season and 18-6 in conference play. Alyssa LeBlanc pitched her third career no-hitter in game two to secure the sweep. She is 12-6 on the year with 139 strikeouts over 106.2 innings in the circle. Emily otto is the other part of shut-down duo for the Lions, coming into the weekend at 17-3 on the season and with 140 K's in 131 innings of work.
Texas A&M-Commerce hits .311 as a team with 6.5 runs scored per game and 145 extra-base hits. Ayanna Williams has a team-high 42 RBI with a .330 average while Sabrina Anguiano is hitting .390 with seven homers and 29 RBI. Additionally, LeBlanc also gets it done at the plate, hitting .299 with 10 homers and 33 RBI.
UT Tyler has won seven straight games and is 34-4 on the season and 20-4 in league play; they have a big matchup with No. 15 Oklahoma Christian on Friday before they face CU. The Patriots bats are hitting .363 with over 8.2 runs per game.
Three players are hitting over.400 with Ashley Perez leading the way with a .430 average, seven homers, and 42 RBI. The UTT pitching staff has a combined 2.23 ERA with 230 strikeouts and a .227 opposing batting average. Payton Foster is the workhorse, while Kaylee Davis holds opposing hitters to a .193 average and has a 1.47 ERA.
