Aggies Head to New Mexico for Two Games

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron women's basketball team hits the road for the longest trip of the year, visiting Silver City, N.M. and Portales, N.M., this weekend. The Aggies will face Western New Mexico on Thursday, Feb. 2, at 5:30 pm MT. CU ends the trip at Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, Feb. 4, with a noon MT tip.

STARTING 5:

1. Cameron fell to Lubbock Christian 68-56 last Saturday. Alena Wilson recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds; she also had four steals, two assists, and a steal.

2. Korie Allensworth and Alena Wilson lead the team in scoring with 11.7 ppg and 11.6 ppg. They both rank in the top 20 scorers in the LSC, and Wilson's 7.7 rebounds per game are eighth in the league. Katie King ranks second in the LSC for steals (2.6) and has the fourth most assists (4.3) in conference play.

3. Western New Mexico comes into the weekend, losing six of seven and holds a record of 5-13, 3-11 LSC, 2-6 DIV., on the season. Last week WNMU fell to UT Permian Basin and Angelo State on the road. The Mustangs score 58.6 points per game while allowing 59.3 ppg.

4. Eastern New Mexico comes into the weekend with a record of 9-10, 6-8 LSC, and 2-5 DIV after falling in five of the last seven games and splitting last week's matchups. The Greyhounds average 64.3 ppg while allowing 62.9 ppg.

5. On Feb. 4, 2004, Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook. The social networking service currently has over 1 billion active users.


LAST TIME OUT:

Cameron fell to Lubbock Christian 68-56 last Saturday. Alena Wilson recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds; she also had four steals, two assists, and a steal. The Aggies shot 38.2 percent from the floor, 25.0 percent from three, and made 9-of-14 free throws. Defensively CU would allow LCU to shoot 44.4 percent from the floor and 40.9 percent from long range while making 11-of-14 free throws.


ABOUT THE AGGIES:

CU is now 10-11, 7-8 LSC, 4-5 DIV., after going 1-1 last week. The Aggies are averaging 62.4 points per game while surrendering 68.7 ppg. Cameron sits eighth in the conference standings with seven games left in the season. Korie Allensworth and Alena Wilson lead the team in scoring with 11.7 ppg and 11.6 ppg. They both rank in the top 20 scorers in the LSC, and Wilson's 7.7 rebounds per game are eighth in the league. Katie King ranks second in the LSC for steals (2.6) and has the fourth most assists (4.3) in conference play.


SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS:

Western New Mexico comes into the weekend losing six of seven and holds a record of 5-13, 3-11 LSC, 2-6 DIV., on the season. Last week WNMU fell to UT Permian Basin and Angelo State on the road. In the previous outing, Sydney Wright led the Mustangs with 12 points, while Diamond Moore scored 10. WNMU scores 58.6 points per game while allowing 59.3 ppg. They shoot 38.8 percent from the floor and 26.9 percent from three while allowing teams to shoot 35.7 percent from the floor and 29.2 percent from long range. Moore is the leading scorer for the Mustangs with 11.7 ppg, and Wright scores 10.6 ppg.


LAST TIME AGAINST WNMU:

The Aggies took down the Mustangs of WNMU 54-43 behind a 21-point game from Korie Allensworth. WNMU was held to four shot attempts in the first quarter and held scoreless for the final five minutes, while the Black-and-Gold closed the quarter on a 10-0 run taking a 15-6 lead early. Cameron opened the second on a 7-1 rally, building a 22-7 advantage. The Aggies would hold a 30-16 lead at the break. Cameron would build a 16-point lead late before closing the game with a 54-43 win.


SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS:

Eastern New Mexico comes into the weekend with a record of 9-10, 6-8 LSC, and 2-5 DIV after falling in five of the last seven games and splitting last week's matchups. The Greyhounds average 64.3 ppg while allowing 62.9 ppg. They shoot 34.4 percent from the floor and 28.0 percent from three. They allow their opponents to shoot 39.0 percent from the floor and 30.6 percent from beyond the arc. Deja Adrian leads EMNU with 16.9 ppg, and Edecia Beck scores 12.0 ppg.


LAST TIME AGAINST ENMU:

Cameron fell at home to Eastern New Mexico 55-42. Alena Wilson recorded a 14-points and 12-rebound double-double. Poor shooting early stymied the Aggies, shooting 2-for-20 from the floor and 0-of-7 from beyond the three-point line in the opening quarter. Eastern closed the first half on a 10-4 run to build a 35-17 lead at the half. The Black-and-Gold would get the game within eight points, but that would be as close as it would be as the Hounds would hold on to win by 13, at 55-42.


WHO HAS NEXT:

Cameron returns home to close out the home portion of the schedule during homecoming week and celebrate homecoming. Angelo State visits Lawton on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 5:30 pm, and UT Permian Basin comes to the Aggie Gym on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 1:00 pm.
