Aggies Make the Trek to South Texas

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron women's basketball team travels south for one last time this season as they will face Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville this weekend. The Aggies will visit the Dustdevils on Thursday, Feb. 16, for a 6:00 pm tip, while they face the Javelinas on Saturday, Feb. 18, with a start time set for 1:00 pm.

STARTING 5:
1. Cameron kept their postseason hopes alive by taking down Angelo State and UT Permian Basin inside the Aggie Gym last weekend. Kailyn Lay and Karley Miller scored a team-high 18 points in the win over the Falcons.
2. Korie Allensworth and Alena Wilson lead the team in scoring with 10.7 ppg. They rank 26th and 27th in the LSC, and Wilson's 8.4 rebounds per game are fifth in the league. Katie King ranks second in the LSC for steals (2.4) and has the fourth most assists (4.4) in conference play.
3. Texas A&M International comes into the weekend losing 10 of 11 and holds a record of 12-14, 5-13 LSC, 4-8 DIV., on the season. Last week TAMUI lost to #3/4 Texas Woman's and UT Tyler. The Dustdevils average 67.8 ppg while allowing 61.7 ppg.
4. Texas A&M-Kingsville comes into the weekend with a record of 14-10, 11-7 LSC, and 7-5 DIV after having a seven-game winning streak snapped, losing twice last week. The Javelinas score 60.8 ppg and give up 58.8 ppg.
5. On Feb. 18, 1930, US astronomer Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto.

LAST TIME OUT:
Cameron kept their postseason hopes alive by defeating UT Permian Basin 70-61 inside the Aggie Gym. Kailyn Lay and Karley Miller scored a team-high 18 points in the win over the Falcons. The Aggies shot 37.1 percent from the floor, 41.7 percent from three, and made 9-of-9 free throws. Defensively CU held UTPB to 32.3 percent from the field and 17.1 percent from long range while making 13-of-19 free throws.

ABOUT THE AGGIES:
CU is now 12-13, 9-10 LSC, 6-8 DIV., after winning twice last week. The Aggies are averaging 61.2 points per game while surrendering 66.7 ppg. Cameron sits ninth in the conference standings with three games left in the season. Korie Allensworth and Alena Wilson lead the team in scoring with 10.7 ppg. They both rank 26th and 27th in the LSC, and Wilson's 8.4 rebounds per game are fifth in the league. Katie King ranks second in the LSC for steals (2.4) and has the fourth most assists (4.4) in conference play.

SCOUTING THE DUSTDEVILS:

The Dustdevils average 67.8 ppg while allowing 61.7 ppg. They shoot 43 percent from the floor and 31.1 percent from three while allowing teams to shoot 38.5 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from long range. Rai Brown is the leading scorer for TAMUI with 18.9 ppg, and Emily Swiercz adds 10.1 ppg.

LAST TIME AGAINST TAMUI:
The Aggies fell to the Dustdevils 70-66 behind a cold-shooting night. The shooting woes started in the opening quarter when they were 1-10 from deep and trailed 18-13 through 10 minutes of play. In the second quarter, while the shots weren't falling, CU locked in on defense, holding the Dustdevils to 11 points while scoring 20 to lead 33-29 at the half. International picked it up in the third, going 6-9 from the field and 8-8 from the charity stripe to outscore the Aggies 21-19 and cut the lead to two heading into the final 10 minutes. After a defensive stop, CU had a chance at tying the game but couldn't get the layup to fall with 11 seconds left. TAMIU hit two free throws in the final seconds to ice the game, 70-66.

SCOUTING THE JAVELINAS:
Texas A&M-Kingsville comes into the weekend with a record of 14-10, 11-7 LSC, and 7-5 DIV after having a seven-game winning streak snapped, losing twice last week. The Javelinas score 60.8 ppg and give up 58.8 ppg. They shoot 40.8 percent from the floor and 33.1 percent from three. They allow their opponents to shoot 37.1 percent from the floor and 25.8 percent from beyond the arc. The Javelinas have four players averaging more than nine points per game, Georgia Ohiaeri and Mia Rivers have a team-high 9.8 ppg, Jayde Tschritter scores 9.5 ppg, and Brianna Pena records 9.4 ppg.

LAST TIME AGAINST TAMUK:
Cameron got off to a blistering start, scoring 17 straight points before the Javelinas even got on the scoreboard. All of that happened in the opening 10 minutes, with the Aggies shooting 35 percent from the field and TAMUK shooting just seven percent in the opening quarter. The Javelinas quickly made sure the game was not going to be a cakewalk, outscoring the home team 17-16 in the second period. TAMUK started feeding forward Georgia Ohiaeri in the third quarter, as she led the way in a 32-point quarter. The run by the road squad saw them down by just two heading into the final frame. Despite the attempt at a comeback, the Aggies never relinquished the lead the entire game.

WHO HAS NEXT:
Cameron ends the regular season at Midwestern State in the battle of the Red River, as they visit Wichita Falls on Thursday, Feb. 23, with a 5:30 pm start time.
