Aggies Close Season at Midwestern State

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron women's basketball team crosses the Red River to end the season at rival Midwestern State on Thursday evening, with the tip scheduled for 5:30 pm.

STARTING 5:

1. Cameron snapped their winning streak by Texas A&M-Kingsville with a 67-41 defeat. Karley Miller and Alena Wilson led the Aggies with nine points. CU is now 13-14, 10-11 LSC, 6-7 DIV., after splitting the two games last week. The Aggies are averaging 61.1 points per game while surrendering 66.9 ppg. Cameron is in a three-way tie for seventh place in the conference standings heading into the season finale.

2. Korie Allensworth and Alena Wilson lead the team in scoring with 10.7 ppg. They rank 26th and 27th in the LSC, and Wilson's 8.4 rebounds per game are fifth in the league. Katie King ranks second in the LSC for steals 
(2.4) and has the fourth most assists (4.4) in conference play.
3. Midwestern State comes into the weekend on an eight-game losing streak, has dropped 11 of 12 games, and holds a record of 5-22, 3-18 LSC, 1-12 DIV., on the season. Last week MSU lost to Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International.

4. Cameron comes into the season's final game with their postseason hopes still alive. Four teams are playing for the final two places in the LSC tournament. If the Aggies win, they will lock in their spot in the postseason; with a loss, CU will have to have a few things work in their favor.

5. On Feb. 23, 1945, ix U.S. servicemen raised the American flag over Mount Suribachi on the island of Iwo Jima during World War II.


LAST TIME OUT:

Cameron snapped their winning streak by Texas A&M-Kingsville with a 67-41 defeat. Karley Miller and Alena Wilson led the Aggies with nine points. The Aggies were held to 22.6 percent shooting from the field, only making 14 shots on the afternoon and 20.7 percent from three-point range while making 7-of-9 free throws. Kingsville knocked down 43.6 percent of shots, and 33.3 percent of long-range were 12-for-23 shots at the charity stripe.


ABOUT THE AGGIES:

CU is now 13-14, 10-11 LSC, 6-7 DIV., after splitting the two games last week. The Aggies are averaging 61.1 points per game while surrendering 66.9 ppg. SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS:

Midwestern State comes into the weekend on an eight-game losing streak, has dropped 11 of 12 games, and holds a record of 5-22, 3-18 LSC, 1-12 DIV., on the season. Last week MSU lost to Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International. The Mustangs average 67.2 ppg while allowing 75.7 ppg. They shoot 37.7 percent from the floor and 28.10 percent from three while allowing teams to shoot 41.5 percent from the field and 34.1 percent from long range. Natalie Stice is the leading scorer for MSU with 13.0 ppg, and Dyamon Griggs scores 12.4 ppg.


LAST TIME AGAINST MSU:

The Aggies took down the Mustangs 99-77, with five players scoring double figures. Katie King had a game-high 18 points, Wilson scored 16, Allensworth added 15, and Kiara Lovings and Miller chipped in 11 points. Cameron would shoot 41-of-70 from the floor, for 58.6 percent and 9-for-20 from three-point range for 45 percent. CU shot better than 70 percent from the floor in the first and third quarters. Cameron maintained their advantage in the fourth quarter, hitting a game-high 26-point lead on a Johnson three-pointer with 2:38 to play. The Aggies closed on a Gillespie layup closing the game with a 99-77 win.

Cameron waits for the outcome of Thursday night's games to see if they make it into the LSC Tournament in Frisco, Texas, next week.
